  11. Seaux...

While I can acknowledge that Thug Cry is one of the weakest songs in the entire rate and I can give or take How Many Times (yet, how that one was the lowest scored song was quite the surprise for me), I'm kinda sad Doves in the Wind already left us... I know it wasn't liked from y'all going on about it, but I kinda like the overall vibe of it? Idk.

I know it's nowhere near Kendrick's best work and even SZA herself can do better, but it's the sound of a woman not giving two fucks and giving it to us real and honest. The samples are nicely used and the girl gives us a nice and confident vocal. The censoring of the word dick is also quite the kii.

  13. Phew, I forgot about "Doves in the Wind." What a blemish on an overall great record. A truly unlistenable song. Also, to the idea that it's a woman reclaiming the word "pussy" a la Azealia, let's recognize that SZA says it 8 times while Kendrick says it a whopping 20 times. A man saying the word more than 2x the woman doesn't scream "reclaiming" to me.
  14. Thank you.

    Your Voice
    - 7.026

    10 x 1 (ohnostalgia)
    1 x 1 (kermit_the_frog)
    My score - 5

Track background: Released as a Japanese bonus track on Santigold, “Your Voice” originally appeared as a track on Stiffed’s (Santi’s previous punk rock project) debut album, Burned Again, released three years earlier in 2005.

My thoughts: A large sonic departure from most of the album, “Your Voice” features Santi’s vocals gracing a sparse, island-type beat, leaving large expanses of empty space between bits of self-harmonizing. As my score of ‘5’ more than obviously makes clear, I don’t really think much of it, but it’s definitely a song I wouldn’t mind smoking one to should my life ever progress to such a stage. Still, a ‘7’ average isn’t much to be ashamed of, so more power to ya, Santigold.

    Your commentary:
@Sprockrooster - I am the proud owner of the Japanese version of this. And I didnot even pay that much extra. I love my recordstore for always ordering a shitload of Japanese versions of albums at once.
@Bangers&Bops - Such a chill stirring song that I had no idea was a bonus track for the album. I wish she had included it as a regular track as it would fit so perfectly to close out this stellar album
@happiestgirl - Wish this didn’t have the weird/distracting sound effects in the background
@AshleyKerwin - I love this! How is it only a bonus track?
    @ohnostalgia - Flat out gorgeous
@constantino - I fucking love this. I haven’t heard it in years because it’s not a bonus track on my version, so thanks for re-introducing me!. As much as I love her more experimental indietronica, she feels so at home with these soundscapes.
@Remorque - Bonus track fodder, but I like the laid-back summer-y vibe of it way too much.
@Solenciennes - The identity struggle as the Caribbean tropes are smothered in a good dose of echo effects is a weird choice but it works, it isolates her voice and allows Santigold to create a bit of room for her voice, which is a strong note to end on. Yas.
@Trouble in Paradise - This feels like a song I'd enjoy listening to a local reggae/island station's late night rotation. Nothing groundbreaking, but pleasant.
