This has been planned for ages, I seriously doubt this will see the light of day, the album was due out last year and it never came.

    Apparently it's a Sly & Robbie production...

  6. Re: Grace Jones - Corporate Cannibal- new album

Bring it on..Im listening to some of her old tracks this evening...and they rock!

  7. Re: Grace Jones - Corporate Cannibal- new album

I hope she maintains her Amazonian Robot vocal technique.

I’ve just listened to the amazing Slave to the Rhythm and Do or Die in preparation. Diverse and unpredictable. Brilliant. I wonder what Sly & Robbie have up their sleeves.

Grace has never been on time for anything her entire life. We're talking Courtney Love x 1000 on the performer irresponsibility scale. Except Grace almost always delivers in the end (if she shows up at all - she throws a big birthday party every year and I think she has only shown up once).

I went to see her do a 'revue' in New York in the early 90s at The Ritz in the space where Studio 54 used to be. The show was due to start at 8pm but my friend and I were running late and did not make it until after 10pm, banking on the fact that she would keep people waiting.

When we arrived, a couple was leaving in disgust and the doorman was warning people not to bother going in. Undeterred, we went to the box office where we were again asked to reconsider since no one had seen or heard from Grace and the employees had just been suffering abuse all evening from irate fans. It was all very exciting so we paid the outrageous cover and ran right in.

After running out of money for drinks, fighting with one another, napping and watching the same three Kid Creole videos for four and a half hours, we were almost ready to give up when the video switched to show the film Boomerang, except only with Grace's scenes (amazing). Then the lights went out (amazing), 'Ladies and Gentlemen, Miss Grace Jones' (amazing), floodlights (amazing), Grace on top of her platform steps singing 'Niteclubbing' (amazing) and all was forgiven in an instant.

She did every one of her hits and shared odd stories of Studio 54 blizzards, cocaine binges in Jamaica, falling out of cars, fucking her dancers, etc while she did her costume changes (on stage) between every song until she just gave up and stopped putting on her clothes. It ended with her singing 'La Vie En Rose' topless in a hula skirt holding a giant champagne bottle (the single best concert moment of my life).

Be patient with Grace. She will deliver eventually. Somehow.

That has to be the best fan story ever!!

    Oooooh new topic anyone?!

  10. Re: Grace Jones - Corporate Cannibal- new album

How iconic...I've never even heard of her.

Looking at these old videos, I'm stunned!

  11. Re: Grace Jones - Corporate Cannibal- new album

Wow. You’ve never heard of her! I feel old.

You prompted me to investigate YouTube. I immediately found this poor-sounding but classic one-take gem from the 70's. I would not stoop so low as to comment on the "cock shots".

A new Grace album?! how awesome would that be? I still love listening to her albums of yesteryear... how long has it been since she's released new material?

  13. Re: Grace Jones - Corporate Cannibal- new album

The last thing I heard about something regardin' the new album was that the Morcheeba singer actually listened to some of the songs and she said they were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! so it's only a matter of time till we hear something, hope soon!

I seem to recall she performed at the opening of a casino in East London about 2/3 years ago and i turned down a ticket - wish i had gone! I think it was free booze as well.

What a complete fool I am.

I don't want to be a party pooper but this piece of news is nearly 2 years old. The director of this so called video (no one has said which song), Nick Hooper, put that info up on his website that long ago. He says she's been working with Sly and Robbie again as well as Brian Eno. The Tricky rumour has also been resurected even though that is 10 years old now. I've even heard she's been working with Richard X.
I saw her live in London a couple of years ago at the TDK festival and not only did she say her album was out later that year but she even performed a song from it! Yes, it was amazing, a real return to the Nightclubbing sound, but sadly it's still nowhere to be seen.
However, as mentioned on here, she always does deliver in the end. It's just a shame it's always later rather than sooner. But Kate Bush and Scott Walker had albums out recently, so I still have faith in her!

She's playing the 'Secret Garden Party' festival later this year, so I'd expect something to come from that.

I hope this is true cos she is she sooooooooo out there and she just does whatever the fuck she wants and the music she makes is fabulously bizarre.. I think she is more of an artist that anything else.

I'd be happy if they'd just release her Muse album on CD as it's only on vinyl. Fantastic disco stomper.
Or if they'd release Slave To The Rhythm properly on CD. The only one that's out has edited versions of all the full songs from the vinyl version.

Oh Lord. This is really happening. We've waited so long that it almost seems unreal. It has to be great. "Nightclubbing" is one of my favourite albums ever.
