NOW! That's What I Call a Rate / BETTER BEST FORGOTTEN

Discussion in 'Charts, rates etc' started by Spiral, Sep 11, 2017.

  1. Apologies for not submitting my Now 40-42 scores. Time caught up with me.
I'd like to comment on this one. If I voted, I would have given it 11.
My favourite track of 1999 AND it also topped John Peel's Festive 50.
They had some great cut-up material - Oh My God They Killed Kenny! Also a brilliant cover of Sex Pistols EMI and various other singles.

  2. They had other songs? Can you tell us the history of this song? It's a bit of a random song.

  3. It actually kinda has...

Like most of these dreadful songs I gave a 5 or higher...

  6. What?! This song didn't deserve to be this low.

  7. The main man in The Cuban Boys was Helen Love's John Matthews - or Ricardo Autobahn as he's known. https://www.facebook.com/ricardoautobahn

They were an electronic act that formed in 1998. John Peel gave them a lot of airplay on his BBC Radio 1 show. They did at least two Peel sessions. C Vs I session version is slightly less polished and a little slower than the commercial release. It's based on Roger Miller's Whistle Stop which is featured in the Disney film Robin Hood. They were big into samples and cut-ups - released six singles and one album (Eastwood) between 1998 and 2000. They returned in 2005 with a Peel tribute, The Nation Needs You. A compilation album followed in 2010 - Art Vs Commerce.

A KLF for the millennium era.

  9. @Spiral, if you’re ranking these by totals rather than by average scores, doesn’t this just massively favour the albums that people had time to rate and shut out the ones that people didn’t get around to rating?

  11. Yes! I've been doing some re-calculating and I'll be getting back into this in January. Hope that's okay x

  12. Will this get going anytime soon?

  13. Yes. Doing a sweep of the bottom ones in a megapost on Sunday and then continuing as "normal" with the top 100/150.

  14. The Bottoms, Pt 1! The 1-3 Pointers
    [IMG]

Girl, get ready for the messiest bottoms you've ever seen in your life! Due to there being over 400 songs (the equivilent of my "Emotional Songs" playlist) and only 7 voters (the same amount of people who brought Melanie B's second album) there are a LOT of ties and a lot low scores. It's a hot mess, but it's MY hotmess and I'll defend to hell and back.

The bottoms are coming quick and fast so we can "get on with it". So ladies and gentlemen, here bottoms with a below 4 average.
