Pet Shop Boys Rate. Part 1: 1985-1991. #7

Discussion in 'Charts, rates etc' started by Ray, Sep 4, 2017.

  1. I feel my 10 was generous in the cold light of 2017, but it was the first PSB single to reach #1 on my charts, after about 7 or 8 singles reaching #2, #3 or #4, so it must have made some sort of extra impact.

I would say Actually isn't doing too badly. Summary of averages for Discography will follow when all singles included on it are gone. Which might take a while since we have 9 singles and one album track – 'King's Cross' – left.
  4. It has NO BUSINESS not future. You horrible, horrible people!

I think personally out of those 10 I am surprised with how well 'Heart', 'Domino Dancing' and especially 'Love Comes Quickly' are doing. I didn't know those were so popular. (Someone needs to tell Neil 'Heart' is so loved.)

  6. I swear if Being Boring wins I will burn this disco down.
  7. Not even Top 10 for the Pet Shop Boys' finest moment is a damn disgrace.

  8. What the fork is "Heart" doing in the Top 10? Oh well.
  9. Well Always On My Mind should have been Top 5 (it's my personal #2), but the Top 10 is pretty much bulletproof. I'd have King's Cross and Love Comes Quickly swapped with said Elvis cover and So Hard in an ideal world.
  10. I'm still reeling with shock! I honestly thought Always On My Mind was locked on for Top 3.

It's a HiNRG masterpiece of clattering synths and cowbells with it's everything including the kitchen sink production and my all time favourite PSB song since 1987. Like Dame @Mikey1701 it was partly responsible for my lifelong love affair with pop music. I still remember my excitement when it was the Christmas #1!

  12. I've lost a shedful of 10s and only have 3 left in the actual Top 10!

  14. “Cowbell HiNRG” is my 2nd favourite genre of music after “random female singer yelling over rave beats”.
  15. For a song containing the lyrics “we were never Being Boring” the song really is, well...... boring. Sorrynotsorry.
  16. I thought this would go top 5 at LEAST so I'm quite shocked to see it go now.
My commentary is a bit of a downer compared to everyone else's, sorry!
  17. Exactly this. I didn't expect any of those three to make the final 10.
  18. It always amazes me how indifferent a lot of Pet Shop Boys fans are to the pop thrills of Heart so on the plus side I'm pleased it's made the Top 10 (watch it go out next!)

  19. I think I only gave out four 10s the entire rate, two of which were to Heart and Domino Dancing. I was only hoping for a top 20 placement for them so I am very pleased with the results.
Since I rarely post, let me take this chance to say thanks @Ray for your hard work on this rate.
  20. What have I done to deserve this mention?
