  1. I wish I could cheat and put Leather & Lace on my charts, but not only do I have no idea when it was released in the UK, I never even heard it until 1991.

  2. There are songs in my chart I never even heard until 2 weeks ago!

  3. Yes, but you've set out your format and criteria, and you can approach it like that. If I start mixing mine up now, it'll just be a mess.

I still dig those tracks out, when I see them charted by others, so it's all part of the nostalga trip!

  5. Who will be the first Number One of 1982? Will Dollar and Bucks Fizz crack the top ten? Only @phoenix123 has the answers - stay tuned!

  6. So this is coming. Bear with!

  7. The (Daddy) "bear" is "with" me!

  8. OK so reason for the delay #1

I am having to manually update the 1982 retrochart excel spreadsheet with the running totals for all 1880 songs so far because I can't seem to cut and paste the column from the 1981 spreadsheet as the values in the column are a function (sum of all the weeks totals) and when I paste them to the 1982 spreadsheet they therefore all default to zero.

Any excel geniuses know a way of storing/freezing the values in some way so I can do a mass cut n paste. Surely it should be possible?

Heaven on Earth and Hairycub1969 like this.
  9. @phoenix123 - it sounds like you may need to do a "copy" and then "paste special values' to bring the 1981 totals for each song into your 1982 worksheet. You can then have the 1982 total in a separate column, and then have "Grand Total" points (for 1981 and 1982) in a further separate column (which will be a function - sum of 1981 total and 1982 total). Feel free to send the file to me via e-mail and I can give it a go if you like. I can PM my e-mail address to you. Good luck!

  10. I liked the above post, but did not understand a word of it.

    Hairycub1969 and phoenix123 like this.
  11. Yes I have already set up the pre-1982 column, the 1982 only column and the grand total column with functions etc. I just needed to move over the 1980/81 grand total column over to be the new pre-1982 column.

I've never noticed a "paste special values" option so I will take a look thanks!

I've actually just manually copied them over, didn't take long actually but now the spreadsheet keep telling me I don't have enough memory (but I do!). I may throw my mac out the window…..

  12. Managed to "paste special values" but now I'm getting memory alerts when I try to do simple things like sort columns.

Well I'm giving up for the evening.

Maybe turning off my mac for several hours will help….

  13. SO my excel seems to be behaving again now after much hair pulling so chart coming today!

  14. Turning the computer off and then back on again usually works! I often find Excel plays up on my home computer (Apple), whereas my work computer (Lenovo) never has an issue with any of Microsoft's apps.

I'm looking forward to the first chart of 1982 - and the continuous countdown of the 1981 YE Retrochart!

phoenix123 and Eric Generic like this.
  15. I googled some things and started "verifying" disks and other stuff that I didm;t really understand and realised if I just blindly followed things on the internet from possible computer geeks who knew what they were doing I could end up losing stuff or crashing my computer.

Turning off and on didn't work so I tried the next best thing - copied the entire spreadsheet and pasted it into a new workbook.

Size reduced from 10MB to 1.1MB obviously.

    No idea why.

It works now that's all I care about.

I for one will welcome our AI overlords who will soon be ruling us…..

Hairycub1969 and Eric Generic like this.
  16. I've had a few instances lately in Excel of that "insufficient memory to continue" type messages, but assumed that's because I had too many things opened at once (singles logs, retrocharts, etc etc).

    Hairycub1969 and phoenix123 like this.
  17. I'm just glad I sorted it before I did something rash like delete a high quality youtube rip of a Cathy Dennis video because it was 100MB large….

  18. So results coming tonight. Only half a dozen new songs this week, none of which actually make the top 100 but how stagnant is the chart?

With @Epic Chocolat seemingly bowing out this week what impact will this have on chart tastes, particularly with @Heaven on Earth joining us?

    You'll see later….
