Poppy - General Discussion

Discussion in 'Pop & Justice' started by Noir, Jun 23, 2015.

  1. This is Poppy. She's a Warhol-esque visual artist of sorts turned popstar. I know that may seem a tiny bit too pretentious on paper, but she's really, really amazing. Let Poppy introduce herself.

For a while, the only Poppy tracks available were cover versions, but today she's launching herself as proper popstar with a pop rock track called Everybody Wants to Be Poppy.

She's signed to Island records and has an album coming out.

    More Poppy stuff:

    Stolen Dance (Milky Chance Cover)

    - deleted for some reason?
My Kind of Woman (Mac Demarco Cover)
Everybody Wants to Be Poppy (Acoustic Version)
    Lowlife (Official Video)
    Lowlife (Acoustic Version)

  2. I kinda like the single.

  3. Her asthaetic is very Tumblr but I'm into it...thanks for the introduction!

  4. Here's Poppy's first music video ever:

I'm not quite sure if I like it or not, but the song is great.

  5. Alright, so I see there's not much interest for this girl around these boards yet, but there's an EP coming soon:

Great artwork. Hopefully the music will be just as good!

  6. SHE HAS TO BE FAKE / A PARODY / A PERFORMANCE ART PIECE, RIGHT?

I've been binge-watching her videos on Youtube and she's so unsettling.

The music is actually very good, but like... her videos are so...... odd. How old is she? Where is she from? Where did she pop up from? It's all very... Halsey meets PC Music meets Melanie Martinez.

    What

    The

    Fuck

If it's some mid-20s art student trying to pose as a young girl, I don't know if that's.. odd or genius.

  7. That's exactly what Poppy is. Personally, I find her YouTube videos a lot more entertaining than her pop music. She's great as a pop thing of sorts, but she's yet to deliver tracks that match her persona.

  8. This is hilarious:

A true 'That FROOT looks familiar' moment. And why does That Poppy continually refer to herself in the third person? It's so random. kii

    Lady Gaga/Lana Del Rey/Allie X teas.

    I think she's actually 23 or 24 I_CANNOT_USE_REAL_WORDS_PROPERLY_.

Her boyfriend makes the same type of art videos:

  11. No idea what her deal is, but this. The world needs this.

It's so big and glittery and pop and such a wasted opportunity if it doesn't get the single/video treatment!

  12. I don't think That Poppy can ever top her infamous internet debut:

  13. I'm usually so stubborn to virtual unknowns but I really enjoyed 'Altar'. She might have something.

  14. This is a good interview kind of seeing the persona in action (and uncomfortably cringe with the interviewer):

Also, this is a bit more relaxed:

And apparently she was/is best friends with Disney's Debby Ryan I_CANNOT_USE_REAL_WORDS_PROPERLY_

She's all over Debby's old vines & instagram.

  16. I enjoy the EP, but she gives me store-brand Allie X teas.

  17. I usually hate the "mysterious new artisté" thing, but surprisingly it's the best thing about "Poppy". Because the music is completely mundane and uninteresting.

But the problem is I'm more here for her as a personality than a musician.

  18. Yeah, her YouTube is far more interesting. The EP was in fact pretty generic and I'm not even sure whether that was done on purpose or not. Hopefully she'll explain everything once the album drops?
