The show at XOYO last night was great. I really think she's a star. The place was full, the crowd were singing every word. Best of all there were new songs that were just as good as the older ones - she has some strength in depth there that reminds me of the Pipettes a bit.
That's it now...
I just found out Caity has co-written most of her songs with Future Cut, who were the co-writers on all the good Lily Allen songs. I wonder if there's some sort of machine behind her?
This is the first song I heard of hers:
Is there no thread about Caity Baser? She's the best pop singer/songwriter I've come across in a long while.
Her best songs so far are Average Student, Friendly Sex and Friendly Sex (Angrier Version).
Her latest song X and Y was a near miss for the chart - it feels like things might be...
After the way the press treated them, this must feel like such a vindication. So many fans who never forgot them. There must be quite a few other pop stars from 10+ years ago seeing this and wondering.
The London show was great. It's mad how the music world works now - someone so talented only does one UK show and it's in a tiny loft. Then again it was full and everyone was singing along so hopefully it's the first of many.
Not keen on Charmer - it's too contemporary and doesn't have the incongruous raviness of their best hits - but the tour will do well. All the mums and dads outside my kids' school were buzzing about it at pickup yesterday and the one mum who already had Birmingham tickets was elevated to queen...
I'm going to see her in London in a couple of weeks. No idea what the show will be like. If I'm honest I prefer the earlier two EPs to the newer songs, but hopefully it'll all make sense when I hear her sing them live.
I've Been Trying To Tell You inspired me to give Asleep At The Wheels Of Steel (filmic mostly instrumental fan club thing) another listen. It continues to be... quite good. They've definitely improved on it with the new album.
Just happened to listen to this after the Daily Mash posted an article lumping the Ting Tings in with Scouting For Girls and the Hoosiers. Dire popinjustice there.
It's a great album, isn't it. I particularly like Estrangement, which has echoes of my favourite song of theirs, Wabi Sabi.
Very nice and funny segment with Matt and Mollie on R1 this morning. Though Mollie must have been wondering why her solo endeavours didn't get the same exposure.
