Now That's What I Call Music (Nostalgia)

Is the original single version of Carrie on the Private Collection from 1988?

Even as long ago as 1987, there is playlist info there. 6 June 87, page 14 has a ‘Playlist’ grid listing the songs on the Radio 1 playlists (or played more than 4 times that week on Radio 1) and those played frequently on independent radio. This going to be fun. Thanks again.

What an incredible resource. Time consuming to put together, I imagine. Many, many thanks Vas. Any word on JJ Japanese Singles track list?

I know this is a little (!) off topic but does anyone know if old Radio 1 playlists are archived anywhere on line? I always thought it would be fun to look back to the 80s/90s as there must be stuff I missed at the time.

The edit of Goodnight Saigon is on the new Japanese singles collection, along with several other new-to-CD/rare 7” versions. Not the edit of You’re only human sadly.

Now That's What I Call Music (Nostalgia)

I’ve answered this question myself I think. The Now Yearbook version is an early fade of the ‘Extended version’ I have on the Dance Classics Pop 9. Nite Flite 3 is the UK promo mix, I think, and the one to go to (length just right).

The British Airways is definitely an edit, not an early fade. If it’s a rare promo edit, great.

Now That's What I Call Music (Nostalgia)

The version of ‘Just be good to me’ SOS Band on Yearbook 1984 is another new edit for me. I have encountered a few edits of this track over the years. The version on the Tabu box set 7” disc is 5:41 and Niteflite 3 has a 3:57 edit - similar to the Yearbook edit but no vocal call at the start...

Banderas, absolutely one of my favourite albums from the 90s. Vintage Stephen Hague. Really looking forward to this.

The ‘Radio mix’ is probably the short remix from the 3” CD single, a ghastly house remix from Steve Hurley. I was gutted when I finally got the CD a few years ago. So far removed from the glorious original. Unlike the incredible Pettibone remixes of ‘Electric youth’… so, so good.

Kim Wilde box set is incredible. I feel slightly ashamed that I kind of lost touch with her stuff after ‘Close’. Still think ‘Never trust a stranger’ is one of the best singles of that period. The singles from the next two albums are amazing and the post 1992 stuff is sporadically excellent. I...

Does anyone know whether the version of ‘Nature boy’ by Central Line on 101 Disco Classics from 2017 is the UK 7”? Much appreciated.

The 7” is also on this 2014 US release from Domino. Much more comprehensive and better sonically than the Edsel from the year before. Never seen ‘Pillar to post’ 7” anywhere else and no glitch on the Oblivious remix you find elsewhere. Highly recommended. Isn’t the 7” of ‘All I need is...

Talking about CD special editions, what has happened to the Vinnie Vero stuff with Wang Chung, Climie Fisher, Living In A Box... and now Olive N-J. Will they see the light of day. God, I hope so.
