Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets Department

All of these are reasons for her not to be forumulaic. She sold the album (likely breaking records) before anyone heard a thing, has drummed up a hysterical fanbase that would get behind anything she released, would probably buy ‘critical praise’ otherwise. Plus she’s inconceivably wealthy and...

Beyoncé - act ii COWBOY CARTER

This is a really great album isn’t it. Long but well sequenced and always intentional. It’s on its way to being my favorite Beyoncé album.

Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets Department

Right? I can’t fathom why they’re thrown all these songs in a pot together when there are two distinct albums here. If were Taylor Swift, I would have release Tortured Poets as an Antonoff ‘Midnights Part II’, done one of her stupid treasure hunt campaigns to throw her fans in a tizzy, then...

Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets Department

There’s such a stark difference in quality between the Antanoff and Dressner songs. CD2 so far actually sounds like a worthy album, more Folklore leaning and generally well produced and less poorly written. The album should’ve just been this? This is the issue when you get too close to your...

They did to label CD1 and CD2 on Spotify.

Will Young - "Falling Deep" + Light It Up (Aug 9)

Oh. More muddy 80s pastiche. I’ll be very happy when trends move on from this I don’t like it. “:(“. Echoes, Lexicon and Crying were solely Richard X produced but this was done by “PhD”, whoever they are. So maybe this will be more of an 85% Proof.

    Britney Spears

It's been repeated ad nauseum what happened. Britney wasn't complying, they put it down to her 'medication no longer working' (ref: Larry) so cancelled the show. They didn't make out she was unwell, they made out her Father was unwell, when they cancelled the show. I suspect there was an...

The Smallest Man Who Lived. One of her best ever songs nestled in with this pile of... stuff.

Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets Department

Okay. We Can't Be Friends (Taylor's Version) is fab. Lights. Camera. Bitch. Smile.

Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets Department

I'm whelmed so far ":(" I feel like Lana has provided some inspiration on how she'd like to view her career. But this is more a Blue Bannisters than a NFR or even Chemtrails. The production is less interesting (or maybe we're fatigued) than Midnights and the lyrics are... some of her worst?

Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets Department

It’s giving… Madam Tay is a tortured poet Traveling around the world Changing identities Fighting for accolades She is an English Literature major A perpetual victim A best friend (your best friend) A cat Mom A house of cards An alpha type A monster on the hill

Will Young - "Falling Deep" + Light It Up (Aug 9)

I find the whole ‘back to pop’ narrative a bit annoying because he’s only ever done pop. Crying on the Bathroom Floor is a pop album.

    Katy Perry - 6th Album

This dubstep and paint combo looks familiar.

    Katy Perry - 6th Album

I’m just not convinced she can do any better than Never Really Over, Harley's, Cry About It Later or Teary Eyes. All great songs, but more of the same won’t work. I think it’s time to pick up the guitar again.

Beyoncé - act ii COWBOY CARTER

I was listening to the janet. album today and while it may be an obscure comparison, Cowboy Carter feels like it has a similar place in Beyoncé’s discography. The scene setting interludes, sprawling tracklist and diversity of genres. Both obviously very distinct masterpieces.

No Doubt (2024 Reunion + Coachella)

I really wish I lived in a timeline where Looking Hot and One More Summer were considered No Doubt classics.

    Spice Girls

Will Geri be there though! These girls... I'm happy for them to put to bed any more live shows but it would be stunning to see them all together again.

    WILLOW - "b i g f e e l i n g s" + Empathogen (May 3)

This is jaw dropping. It's been easy to not pay attention because of the exhausting nepo background but this is really, really good.

Sia - "Incredible" (feat. Labrinth) + Reasonable Woman (May 3)

I think it’s likely she was never really a great person, but she had some artistic integrity when her career’s sole purpose wasn’t making money. I read an interesting interview saying she became really difficult during her initial tours (forgot which album for), demanding 1st class flights and...
