Oh I bought that! I'd no idea it was a cover until about a decade ago. It was a "gold" CD single as well, which I thought was peculiar until I encountered a few more "gold" CD singles. The video was on The Box a lot.

Shampoo - Where are they now ?

I've listened to this whole podcast about four times now and I keep laughing away at it. I'd have been so heartbroken if they sounded like they haven't spoke in years - this was like sitting with a drink after a shift with two of the old crew expanding all the little nuggets of work stories...

    Stock, Aitken & Waterman

Well "That's What Love Can Do" completely passed me by 'til I checked in today. I really like this!

Shampoo - Where are they now ?

I loved that interview. Kept my office Wednesday spirits up, while I'm purposely trying not to listen to their records ahead of the box set landing.

Rachel Chinouriri - What A Devastating Turn of Events

Gave this a spin this week and oh my the one-two punch of "The Hills" and "Never Need Me"

    Star Trek

Other than the whistley people episode, I've largely enjoyed this season. The T'Rina vs the Breen negotiation was fantastic, and always good to see Commander Nhan... and then I thought my interest in the episode plummeted any time it got back to the season mystery. I know people like Reno but I...

My own version of younger millennials finding out that "Torn" is a cover was when I learned that "Not So Manic Now" was one.

    Dannii Minogue

One of my friends dug these out from a charity event Dannii did, and possibly mimed to "Everlasting Love" at. I mean, nobody can seriously say that Dannii hasn't done the ground work in being an ally and moving in queer circles, but I do think she needs to police her own words at times and...

The biggest pop cultural myth of the 90s charts is that people were fooled into buying "Spaceman" and that it disappeared out the charts once the jig was up - it was #1 for 5 weeks! (Jas Mann's ego and their shoddy LP was the main reason people got over Babylon Zoo faster than an an X Factor...

    Dannii Minogue

Someone recorded her on CCTV receiving a lapdance off a female entertainer and stills were published in the tabloids.. around 2004 or 2005 I think. They had positioned the CCTV into the booth where she had been sat.

    Kylie Minogue - Tension

BMG's model is that it's a 50/50 split in decision-making and campaign spend/profit participation. And as I understand it, it's an album by album basis for every artist that they sign label service deals with. If either is just not feeling it they can walk away.

    Kylie Minogue - Tension

Five album deals are/were standard in the major label ecosystem. And that means they have you for 5 albums, or until the point where they want to walk away and drop you - it's not a guarantee that you'll get five albums out of them. If Light Years had bombed, they'd have likely parted ways...

    Kylie Minogue - Tension

The hits always come with rolls, the peaks and the troughs are part of the journey. I can't imagine how boring (and expensive) it must be to be a fan of an artist who just blew up to stadium level on album one and stayed there long after the bootcut jean dads stopped buying their albums.

    Kylie Minogue - Tension

She wouldn't have been out of her 1999 Parlophone deal until after Aphrodite anyway so she wouldn't be going anywhere. Kiss Me Once was a contract extension and Kylie Christmas was Kylie's own label licensed to Parlophone.

    Kylie Minogue - Tension

The whole thing spun its wheels when "Get Outta My Way" stalled and they never got back on track but the signs were there when "All the Lovers" was getting dragged out longer than it should have so that the physicals would be ready. The second single should have been dropping on album week...

    Kylie Minogue - Tension

Agreed. I think BMG and Kylie came together at the right time. Although New BMG's label service business model had been established for about eight years by then, I think it took til the Blondie campaign in 2017 for people to really sit up take notice. They were a heritage artist with a messy...

    Kylie Minogue - Tension

Parlophone just didn't know how to market her in the digital world. They'd gotten complacent with assuming that her single sales and UK radio support would always be counted upon to get them through a wobble (examples - "Please Stay", "Red Blooded Woman" and "2 Hearts"). They had enjoyed a...
