Róisín Murphy - "The Universe" + Hit Parade (Sep 8)

The fact I just copped this 9hrs after they posted it makes me sad for her popularity levels on this side of the Atlantic.

    Vinyljustice 2.0

Yeah the UK list blew the US one out of the water I feel. 7 people lined up outside my local small town New England record store. Everyone, both old and young, bought the Taylor.

    100 gecs - 10,000 gecs

The new album fucking slays. After not being totally convinced with the earlier stuff I’m now 100% onboard.

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

I guess if you’ve seen her a few times that feeling inevitably creeps in. Bowie stopped playing the hits live in 1990 and everyone complained for years. She would have to deal with more of this if she went down that route I fear.

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

Ideal scenario would be like The Cure. Pushing 4hrs, playing all the songs in order, b-sides etc.

    Kelela - Raven

I feel like the first 10 seconds of every track is amazing and then quite often it…..wanders off a bit. Two listens in and I can tell it will only become more rewarding with each play though. It really does envelop you.

Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You

Record jacket printers are as backed up as the pressing plants. Well the high end ones are anyway (Stoughton etc.).

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

Shout out to the SafaV4 guy on YouTube that’s been diligently attending all the shows on the tour and posting front row videos.

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

Even speaking as a heterosexual I’m not sure I want to live in a post-Boy Problems world.

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

I sort of agree but our queen is clearly in love and wants the world to know it so will make an exception in her case.

How the hell did I not know Codeine had a record out this year?

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

Her first week US sales were what, just over 20K? I didn’t see her Japanese numbers and everything else is loose change down the back of the sofa to the majors. Bringing in a couple of hundred grand in music sales isn’t going to keep the suits happy so they must be taking a cut elsewhere. I...

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

Amazed she’s still signed tbh. She must be on some particularly hideous 360 deal.

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

I live in hope that her sets keep getting longer and she ends being like The Cure. Dispenses with warm up acts, plays everything in order of release for 4 hours.

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

Bunch of death metal tshirts at the back in Boston last month. Also that Swans crossover.

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

It’s more I’m sad they probably won’t book her at their festival anymore.

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

I mean you can say that about absolutely every publication that’s ever written about music. But it’s not about validating what the fans already know. Also this narrative about CRJ being ‘gay music’ is kind of ridiculous. There’s that definite subsection of her audience who are mostly straight...

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

Nice gate you’ve got there. Good media coverage helps to sell product and like them or not Pitchfork is one of the key ones. I’ll be looking out for the write-ups in the NYT, Guardian, WaPo etc.

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

Pitchfork have fully turned on her alas. Excluded from the Albums Out Today newsletter and a pretty negative review for the album itself on their site.

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time

For us run of the mill fans who, ya know, hear stuff when it comes out all the signs are pointing to this album being amazing.
