    Saint Etienne

I’ve given it a spin, and it’s pretty interesting. It’s honestly nothing like the last album. There’s a lot of string arrangements, and it all sounds quite orchestral. It’s sorta like Goldfrapp’s ‘Tales of Us’ filtered through a Peter Strickland movie soundtrack.

    Saint Etienne

I sat this one out. Mostly because I wasn't very impressed by 'Character of Saint Etienne,' and couldn't justify making a purchase just for the risky bonus EP. I liked the 'Surrey' EPs after 'Home Counties,' (Forty Light Years is a gem!), but 'Character' felt so insignificant to me...

I'm also excited! Both of these tracks sound like what I wanted "I've Been Trying to Tell You" to sound like. More Sarah, and at least a little bit of pop structure and style - kind of like Sound of Water, which I adore.

    Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

It's really good, but a part of me wanted more tunes akin to 'mini mix vol. 3.'
  5. Dissonanced

    Saint Etienne

Yeah, not too excited for a Pt. 2. Something about that album just didn't click for me. And this is coming from someone who even enjoyed those 'Surrey' EPs! So here's hoping...

Ever since the Polygon Wave EP came out, they're officially 'back' in my mind. Plasma was a stunner from start to finish.

    Kylie Minogue - Tension

    no luck here either. :(

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loveliest Time / The Loneliest Time

Just to be clear, despite my aforementioned shade towards the opening track (lol), I think this may in fact be her best album. Everything else is gorgeous, groovy, catchy, sophisticated. It’s so so good!

Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loveliest Time / The Loneliest Time

I’ve accepted that Carly albums will have a ‘Beach House’ moment. But I just cannot accept that moment being TRACK ONE. Those vocals are so cringe whyyyyy

    Alison Goldfrapp - General Discussion

I dunno, I thought she came across as level-headed, soft-spoken, and nonchalant in a charmingly confident way. I thought it was fine! She's always had that energy in interviews.

    Perfume

I'm thrilled that the Perfume team seems to have finally figured out how to craft a killer setlist with an actual sense of pacing. Both Primavera and London have been light years better than their recent tour sets imo!

    Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

they are so consistently fantastic. but i gotta say....i saw them open for caroline polachek, and i wasn't feeling their live setup. it's kind of a hot mess, esp compared to how polished and glossy their sound is. but maybe it's just me!

    'Home Counties' was great!

    Ladytron - Time's Arrow

I like it! It's hypnotic. And the mix sounds a lot better than on the last album, so that bodes well. Vocals sound just fine to me. Very shoegaze-y. Count me cautiously optimistic. Also, I gotta say, this and their last album have had fantastic cover art...loving the aesthetic.

    Perfume

This album is fantastic and, dare I say it, their first album that actually has a ~cohesive album~ feel?! It really cancels out any disappointment I may have felt about having already heard many of the tracks. It’s a gorgeous experience from beginning to end!!

Agreed! I think 'Polygon Wave' is one of their best singles in a very long time (never mind the boring MV, of course). It's so distinctively weird, full of syncopation, and extremely techno. 'Spinning World' reminds me of 'Natural Ni Koishite.' 'Mawaru Kagami,' 'Android,' and 'Mugen Loop' are...

    Annie

Annie's Spotify page has become an algorithmic fever dream of mismatched nonsense. And yet let's be honest, the album art for 'Endless Vacation' fits right in!

    Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

Don't sleep on their extensive back catalog, either! 'Money Lover' is a total sophisti-bop.

The recent EP and 'Mirror Ball' (1:40 - 2:07 in particular...omg) are fantastic. It's like 'Triangle' meets 'Level3.' So glad they're finally returning to a more melancholy/bittersweet techno sound. It's what made them huge to begin with, and I'm glad Nakata got the memo!

Mr Twin Sister - Mr Twin Sister

One of my favorite groups of all time. Their evolution has been so rewarding to follow! They thrived in the late 00's, survived the fizzling-out of similar chillwave indie 'darlings' from around that time, and now produce glamorous & sophisticated club-adjacent dance music. Yes, please. So...
