    UK Politics: Hell Island, 2025

Also worth pointing out that Kier Starmer is willing to use Brianna Ghey's mum for political point-scoring, but still opposed the proposal by the SNP that would have allowed her to not be misgendered by her death certificate. It's easy to eulogise a dead trans girl rather than give rights to her...

    UK Politics: Hell Island, 2025

This seems like backpeddling after realising how incredibly illegal it is to openly set out to discriminate against trans people in the way he suggested. I'm not sure how actually helpful it is to downplay how violently transphobic Labour are right now, even if this isn't policy - also many...

Labour are just bigoted at this point, not pretending.

    UK Politics: Hell Island, 2025

That's not the point, though? Labour being willing to openly declare open season on trans people to the extent of breaking the law is still bad even if it doesn't actually happen. Trans people in hospital are not a problem in need of solving.

    Oscar Bait 2023-2024

I'm aware that it was edited for that (although it's still ridiculous to use legislation intended to protect real children from real child abuse to police a fictional film featuring fictional children - it's acting and doesn't feature any unsimulated sex, the child actors just saw acting!). But...

    Oscar Bait 2023-2024

Just saw Poor Things, what an absolutely incredible performance by Emma Stone. I am utterly baffled as to why it got an 18 certificate in the UK but an R rating in the US. I know UK legislation is ridiculously restrictive re sex on screen but there's nothing I would consider really sexually...

    UK Politics: Hell Island, 2025

I am a bit surprised that nobody here has mentioned this yet. To be clear, Streeting is saying that Labour will build trans-specific wards for all trans people, apparently regardless of sex (which then makes the insistence on single-sex wards extra confusing because apparently trans people don't...

Girl Bands in the 'pop' heyday

If my mental health lets me do it I'm planning on going back to uni to do a Film/Screenwriting degree, and I always had an idea of writing/making a sapphic girlband movie set in the late 90s/early 00s so maybe this is a sign haha. But then in my maladaptive daydreaming I get Self Esteem to write...

Also this is a bit of a random q but best UK cities for really good zoos and aquariums (aquaria?)? Needs to be easily accessible by public transport. Is London Zoo really that good?? Has anyone been to the Birmingham Sealife Centre recently? I went there as a kid but have no idea how it holds up...

Also the main cemetery in Vienna has a colony of wild Eurasian hamsters living there, and they're super cute.

    LGBTQIA+

@MusicLover1994 I think the main issue for parents is sleep deprivation making doing anything wayyy harder - not that non-parents don't get sleep deprived but babies keeping you awake is a different thing. I say that as a childless person who doesn't want kids and who frequently has insomnia...

Well JHB did say that "at least the Taliban know what a woman is" so unfortunately not surprised by her behaviour here. She truly is one of the worst in a very crowded sea of shite.

A*Men Pure Havane, or YSL La Nuit de l'Homme (vintage version ONLY). I wonder if Habit Rouge would be worth a try too, or Homme Ideal.

Tbh if you can wear 1 Million, I bet you could pull off Shalimar or Cinnabar (or vintage Opium). I wonder if you could even wear Mitsouko with its big cinnamon-peach-oakmoss focus? I think a lot of "old lady" perfumes actually work really well on men, because a lot of the reason they're seen as...

    Albums Turning 20 in 2024

There were a lot of HUGE non-pop albums that year, especially indie and hip hop - Franz Ferdinand, Kanye West, The Killers, Kasabian, and The Libertines all made their debuts. Green Day released American Idiot. Also, the Doctor Who reboot happened!

Girl Bands in the 'pop' heyday

Wasn't the lead singer a total cow and detested by all the other members? That probably makes it quite difficult to have chemistry with each other. Did MTV ever do a Totally Girlband show in the vein of Totally Boyband?

If Faye fancied putting out a solo album for 2024 that'd be great, cheers hun x Going back to the subject of musicals (funnily enough just as I Know Him So Well came up on my playlist - btw did you know that Sandra Dickinson is David Tennant's mother in law and also now in Peppa Pig?? versatile...

    Steps

How much older was Tim than H? H was an adult of course but Tim was also in a position of power - doubly so as H was still closeted during both the Steps and H&Claire eras. It also always sounded like H and Tim started a relationship as soon as the band was started which is also pretty yikes. I...

    UK Politics: Hell Island, 2025

Reminder, though, that it's non-statutory guidance and not law. Schools are able to protect their trans students if they want to (and fortunately many do). That doesn't make the bill less awful of course but it's not legally binding.
