This album feels like an autumnal sister to DEEPER WELL; haunting melodies, existential themes, not designed for radio etc. Or like an Evermore to Deeper Well's Folklore? I love how the title track reveals itself over multiple listens.
The album is still revealing itself to me- but increasingly feels like a return to a type of songwriting that she hasn't deployed in the past few albums, even if some of the production feels like a continuation; the reckless scorched earth of Speak Now rings in my ears as I listen to some of...
This is great from top to bottom- phew. Didn't know the majority was written/produced with Ian Fitchuk; should've been more trusting! Natalie Imbruglia Sheryl Crow early 2000s loveliness
Hope this is good; doesn't look like her label is spending a ton to get this out there, certainly compared to her first two albums- wonder what that means.
I'm on the fence; will wait to listen- her songwriting remains strong in these first two, but the raw production/vocals/mixing plays more...
It's too soon to say this is better than Golden Hour, because I've lived with that album for six years-- and it remains one of the most special, magical, grossly overplayed/returned-to musical experiences in my life; a true companion for my late twenties, and falling in love.
But Deeper Well...
Obviously only had it a few hours, but tried it in a few spots and think it sits best after Lonely Millionaire; adds some pace and depth to beginning of the back third, and somehow rhymes with Green Jade-- before the palette cleanser of Heaven Is takes you into the final act.
I've also added...
Ugh Ruthless is great- sunny Justified vibes, and also somehow a continuation of the soundscape on Jade Green? Hope she does a full deluxe at some point!
Gorgeous! Not sure why, but both of these are already more interesting than much of the last album. She executes the concept in Pages perfectly-- gives me shades of All Too Well in terms of the recollection of it all.
Most expensive tickets are $254.75, then range from: $229.50, $199.50, $179.50, $159.50, $139.50, $119.50, $99.50, $79.50, $59.50, $39.50.
Got tickets to the final night in Nashville- let's go!
She leaked the rest of the EP on her discord. It's lush- Down Swinging is a capital bop. Dive remains immaculate-- and I keep returning to Ghost from the last album; the slightly country twang to it works with her voice pretty nicely
Oof how utterly disappointing. I won't be using any of these re-recordings- they sound so impossibly cheap where the originals are so shimmery and bulletproof. Hope she learns her lesson for Reputation; bet she won't. Would love to understand why Max isn't involved; feels like a catastrophic...
In love with this sound/art direction- the songs are simple, but hook laden, and the production is traditional, but still modern feeling/fresh. Can't wait to hear the full thing; sounds like it's going to be a perfect album for autumn
You're Losing Me is out there- it's nice, not super remarkable upon first listen, but an incredible bridge. Sounds like a Folklore song produced with Midnights in mind.
