I am not the rate villain here, I've given out plenty of good to great scores. I swear!

No eliminations today, since it's Sunday, but tomorrow we'll reach some milestones:
- Indie pop top 20
- Indie rock top 30
- Overall top 50

The next two eliminations are

An indie pop song that didn't receive any negative scores and the indie rock song with the most 10s so far. Both are songs with male vocals

Tied with Laura Veirs's Don't Lose Yourself, we have the last song to miss the indie pop top 20. Another song no-one hated, but that definitely divided opinions, with eight people rating it 6 or lower, and seven 9 or higher.

Husky Rescue are a Finnish band that has released four albums between 2004 and 2013, and New Light of Tomorrow is taken from their debut album Country Falls. Husky Rescue are arguably the least well known act in the rate, but they have an excellent discography and have been a huge favourite of mine for years (not sure how I discovered in the first place though), so I'm pretty please how well they did, given I imagine they were probably a discovery for most voters. Over the course of their career, Husky Rescue have dabbled in various genres and influences (and even had multiple vocalists on their songs), but the thing that unifies everything is the atmospheric and cinematic nature of their music. New Light of Tomorrow, fantastic as it, is probably one of their least idiosyncratic songs, but I figured it was probably the one that fit the rate best. I embedded a couple of my favourites of theirs below, Summertime Cowboy, also from the debut album, and Nightless Night, taken from sophomore album Ghost Is Not Real (2007) which is one of their biggest bops and one of my favourite songs ever (the 7+ minute album version that is, but the single version is more PJ-friendly). Like a few other indie pop rate acts like Au Revoir Simone and Patrick Wolf, Husky Rescue haven't released anything in a good while, despite still being active (supposedly), so here's hoping the Rate Effect™ works its magic and we get some new material soon.

@Attis (5) “The song itself is boring, but some of the synths worth additional points”

@daninternational (7.5) “It's nice, but nothing much happens”

@DJHazey (8) “Has nothing to do with the song but this band name reminds me of a popular Halo custom game called Husky Raid. It was a capture the flag game-type with one long straight corridor from one team to the other and with minimal cover. Everyone would always spawn with a random weapon but the formulas were skewed so you would get power weapons more often. So hard to cap a flag but led to long drawn out epic battles. The song itself is the complete opposite of the madness I just described, instead being a quiet stroll through the woods in the autumn, lost in your own thoughts. So peaceful.” In retrospect I should have used this commentary in the guessing game dd

@berserkboi (9.5) “Such a gorgeous atmosphere and melody!”

@DominoDancing (8) “This has a great moody production, I just wished it had...a proper chorus, or just anything to switch it up a bit, because I don't think the melody is strong enough to carry the song over it's whole runtime.”

@Maki (9.75) “A lovely discovery! Very moody and relaxing. Some of the production elements reminded me of Linda Perry's debut album. I recommend the full 5-minute version, where the lovely instrumental is even more pronounced.”

Host's score: 8

After the indie pop rate has already lost fifteen songs, it's finally time to wrap up the indie rock bottom 5, with the elimination of the song in that rate to have received the most 10s so far, and also the first one with a 7.5+ average.

Kasabian are a band from Leicester who have released six albums between 2004 and 2017, and Fire is taken from their third, and most successful, album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, from 2009. Kasabian are a band I've always been aware of but never felt any interest in checking (I lowkey always get them mixed up with Kings of Leon) so yeah, I do like Fire well enough, and it certainly stands out in the playlist, but I wouldn't even have thought of including them in the rate if someone hadn't suggested it, and I don't really have much to say about them given I barely know any of their songs dd (there are 70 different artists in this rate, ok, I can't be familiar with every single one dd). Anyway, two of their other biggest songs, Club Foot, from their self-titled debut album, and Underdog, from the same album as Fire, are embedded below.

@DominoDancing (2) “The UK has a weird hard-on for Kasabian that will forever remain a mystery to me. This song is boring is fuck. Fot a brief moment around 2:53 it seems like it might stop being boring. But then, alas, it continues to be boring.”

@daninternational (6) “Kasabian have some great songs, but not this one”

@Attis (6) “The tempo change is like witnessing a disappointing reveal in drag race”

@DJHazey (7.5) “Sheesh once this song finally ‘wakes up’ and gets moving, so do I. Just wish this wasn’t a clear ‘chorus and nothing else’ affair.”

@Filippa (8) “Gives me Sergio Leone vibes and a strong, rocky chorus.”

@berserkboi (10) “I never knew this was the Kasabian Fire despite loving this everytime it randomly came on the radio back in the day!” I can't imagine hearing a song I like on the radio and not looking it up!

I'm sorry as I usually like Husky Rescue. But this song gives me a headache because of some of the instruments used and some of you call it moody I say there's nothing going on.

But I really like the somehow moody feeling (too) of Fire by Kasabian ...

@Attis:
31. “The tempo change is like witnessing a disappointing reveal in drag race” ✔

@Untouchable Ace:
28. “I thought this was by Kaiser Chief this whole time. Fave by [REDACTED] is [REDACTED]!”

And @Attis guesses his own commentary right ddd. He wasn't the only person to that though, and I never said people couldn't do it either. For now I'll count those "guesses" separately, and they may be used for tie-breaking at the end of the game.
