Just 0.25 points ahead of #19 we have the second indie rock song with multiple 11s eliminated so far, after Evil back at #29.

New Order are obviously the big outlier in this rate, since, while every other band was formed in the mid-90s or later, they've been around since 1980, having been formed by ex-Joy Division members. New Order have released a total of twelve albums between 1981 and 2015, as well as several compilations, and are mostly known for their 80s classics such as Ceremony, Blue Monday (both embedded below), Bizarre Love Triangle and True Faith. So in that case, why are they even this rate? Well, in 2001 came Crystal, the lead single from their seventh album Get Ready, which is not only most definitely a fantastic indie rock song, but, amusingly, was performed but a fake young indie rock band in the music video, something which led many people to think that's who New Order actually were (as a quick look at the Youtube comments section will show you). Said fake band was called The Killers... and that's exactly what the real The Killers, formed later in the same year, are named after, with the Crystal music video even serving as the inspiration for their Somebody Told Me one.

@daninternational (3) “It was acceptable in the 80s” har har

@DJHazey (8.5) “This was a nice little surprise considering I knew them as an 80s synth pop band. The shorter single version is it though.”

@berserkboi (9.5) “Same as Muse really ddd”

@DominoDancing (11) “It's probably a bit of a cheat to give my 11 in this rate to a band from the 80s, but this _was_ the first New Order song I consciously heard (and yes, I thought the kids in the video were actually the band), and I found the song absolutely mesmerizing.”

Time to eliminate... my back-up 11, welp. Did I choose the indie rock elimination template colours so they'd match the I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor artwork? No I didn't, but it seems fitting they do anyway.

Arctic Monkeys are possibly the indie rock band (just google "indie rock bands" and see what the first result is), so the absolute classic that is I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor not even making the top 15 seems a bit shocking, though I can't help but to wonder if it suffered from some people rating it based on the live, kind of rough-sounding video version, instead of the superior album version. Arctic Monkeys are a band from Sheffield who released six albums between 2006 and 2018, with I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor being their debut single. Below are also embedded Brianstorm, from sophomore album Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007) and the massive Do I Wanna Know, which is believe the only song by a rate artist other than The Killers' Mr Brightside to have over 1 billion streams on Spotify, taken from their excellent fifth album AM (2013), probably my second favourite album by an indie rock rate act, after the CSS debut.

@DominoDancing (5) “Absolutely 100% never got the hype for this song, even from this very site. Tuneless vocals over a basic riff. A couple of points for an overall energetic performance, but really, je ne comprend pas.”

@DJHazey (6) “Great energy, especially from the opening shred of guitars, but I’m not a huge fan of this vocalist in general. While, yes the chorus presents a decent take on ‘dance-rock’ and seems exciting on the surface, each listen instead makes it less effective and more bland because of how simplistic it is.”

@Ana Raquel (7) “Surprisingly, I wasn't really a fan of arctic monkeys even in my indie era, aside from some songs on "Favourite Worst Nightmare" - and, gasp, 505 is actually my favorite of them. This song goes to the good-but-not-interesting-enough-to-stan side of them. Hey, better than nothing!”

@An Insider (7) “If this were When The Sun Goes Down, I would've given it a 10, that song had me on a chokehold."

@KingBruno (7.5) “Here’s an opinion: I’ve never thought the Arctic Monkeys were that essential for the indie rock scene. They were doing exactly what The Strokes were doing, albeit less earth-shattering. “I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor” is a fun bop with great lyrics, but it just doesn’t wow me anymore. I think the band only started to really distinguish themselves from the industry with their last two albums: AM and Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.

@Filippa (8) “I like the energy!”

@berserkboi (9.5) “An amazing debut and made me follow them for a while but nowadays there are other tracks by them I return to more”

@Sprockrooster (10) “The way this track manages to give the straights ánd gays everything they want. I am shook I could bop to this hard whilst being among straight friends bopping just as hard.”

@daninternational (10) “I'd take When The Sun Goes Down over it anyday, but a real moment for UK indie rock at a time when I was a big fan of it”

@slaybellz (10) “The song that started my UK Indie Rock obsession.”

Commentary Guessing Game
I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor

20. “If this was a single by a pop girl... I swear it would shatter every competition in a rate. Or maybe that is just my dreamworld, which you do not have to crush.”

@Untouchable Ace:
22. “Possibly the last song before the death knell of the UK Indie Rock period, it's an absolute tune but I'm glad the days are over when every band with guitars could get an instant hit”

@Attis:
27. “I know [REDACTED] are very 'for the locals', but this song remains an anthem”

@slaybellz:
29. “I went in expecting to give this a 10, but I seem to only think so when our [REDACTED] goes all the way off - slight penalty must apply dd”

Some... interesting... takes, but sadly no-one got this one right!

Nooooo! I’ve been playing AM like hell lately, and some of their earlier tracks are just still untouchable.

AM is like my comfort album. I listen to it whenever I'm in a mood.

AM realy is fantastic, and it's kind of iconic how Arctic Monkeys managed to have such a killer blockbuster era on their fifth album, especially when most of these bands tended to peak (at least commercially) in their early years.
