  3. Such a great year for pop!

  4. It was a good year but that chart has some shockers in there! Lol @ the twitter account’s name though.

Highlights for me that year not yet mentioned ...

  7. The only one I’d ditch is Vengaboys. I never really liked their pre-school style techno, but you can occasionally find me getting on down to Shalala Lala. What a choon!

  8. That whole Top 10 is epic.

  10. I Breathe Again by Adam Rickitt is still such an epic bop.

1999 was great the only thing that could’ve improved it was a big poptastic Spice Girls single.

  11. Yes indeed, 1997-2003 was a great run in pop music for me

  13. I've made a best of 1999 playlist inspired by this thread. I look back on those days so fondly, buying singles from Woolworths and being obsessed with the charts. Thinking Ricky Martin was the hottest man alive. Skiving off school and watching MTV and VH1 all day long. Glory days.

    Groove Armada - Vertigo
    David Bowie - ....Hours
    Texas - The Hush
Scritti Politti - Anomie & Bonhomie
    Savage Garden - Affirmation
    Beck - Midnite Vultures
    Tom Waits - Mule Variations
    Sting - Brand New Day

David Sylvian - Dead Bees On A Cake
    Stereophonics - Performance & Cocktails
    PSB - Nightlife
    Suede - Head Music
    Geri Halliwell - Schizophonic
    Jamiroquai - Synkronized
    TLC - Fanmail
Goo Goo Dolls - Dizzy Up The Girl
Foo Fighters - There's Nothing Left To Lose

I'd long since lost that connection with the (pop) charts.

Mr Brightside, bonnieetclyde and 2014 like this.
  15. I was 14 in 1999 and the same happened to me gradually and by about 2005 I was totally out of touch.

Mr Brightside and Eric Generic like this.
  16. I got really back into it around 2002, until about 2008. Pop became something I could relate to again.

  17. The Adam Rickitt album was surprisingly solid. Much better than I thought it would be.

Imagine Tina Cousins recording some of those songs, though.

  18. I'm shook that the album is on streaming.

Some of the songs wouldn't sound out of place on Light Years.

  19. He had an album? Blimey.

  20. Now 43 is probably my Desert Island Disc. What a summer, what a year
