Another elimination at a questionable time! Why do I hate myself so much?? I don't even know!!!

Anyway, it's another extra.

I love In The Zone by Britney Spears!!!!

So Ivy opens the top 50 with a mid-00s sexy song that screams mid-'00s. More info about Ivy: she is a former JYP trainee who first appeared at 1st gen sensation Lee Soo Young's MV, back in 2005, the same year she debuted. She is also an actress and a songwriter (aka "The Lighthouse").

Her life was kinda controversial though: many banned videos, hacked accounts, blackmail due to an alleged sextape (which was never leaked, gladly). Anyway, she was super popular during the '00s and had the chance to open for Christina Aguilera in Seoul in 2007.

She seems to be focusing on her theater career now, looking at her Wikipedia page. She still releases music though. I believe this is her most recent release from a bit over a year ago.

A-Ha is a great song and I guess I could have scored it a bit better. The reason I didn't, though, is that she will never be able to top this work of art.

ab67706c0000bebb95b0299fddb8456dd8dd5e65

(this was one of her banned videos, anyway)

And since I knew this before A-Ha, I guess I had higher expectations.

Ah, another song worth mentioning is her feat. with Yubin, which was how I first heard of her a few years ago. All in all, she is a versatile artist, and I definitely recommend her music!

So, when Joolae was eliminated back in the beginning, I was kinda surprised because I didn't think it would be her first eliminated song. Actually, this one was the song of hers I thought it would leave first, mostly for two reasons: it was when she started to drift away from the techno sound and it's one of her least relevant singles. Like, most of the other singles are either widely covered or featured in rhythm games. This is not the case for "Follow Me" - I didn't find neither.

Still, it's a great song, and of course, I will support the latin roots here. Most of the album follows the same path, and the single is actually the most techno-ish song there. If you enjoy this kind of style (but are turned off by techno music), it should be a nice listen to you. It's still one of her albums I revisit less, though.

★★★

@berserkboi (7,8): I enjoy the route of going a little latin here!

★★★

While Escape is my favorite song from Lee Jung Hyun's 5th album, I love Follow Me (and just about all the other songs on the album lol). The Japanese version (titled Passion) is fun as well, but still doesn't come close to Follow Me.

Poor Park Ji Yoon dddd she keeps being massacred and only has three songs left. Stay strong, girl!

"Precious Love" is the second single off her second album, "Blue Angel", but nowadays the remake done by TWICE to their second mini-album, "Page Two", might be more well-known.

Personally? I prefer the original version, even though I think TWICE's cover is a good one (and Chae's added rap was *mwah*), but that's me being used to the original version, anyway - I just heard TWICE's version for the first time at the TWICE rate.

Anyway, most of Ji Yoon's early eras are full of feel-good songs but that misses something in order to get a 10. This is no exception. There is just one left now. I wonder if that's the one???? We will find out #soon.

@berserkboi (8,5): Some Pure Pop Realness!

Lee Hyori is back on the chopping block! This time with another single of her first controversial era - but possibly the least controversial single of that era. "Straight Up" is a cover of American R&B sensation Chanté Moore's "Straight Up".

The original song was produced by no other than Jermaine Dupri (yes, the one responsible for many of Mariah Carey's smash hits). According to credits, I inferred that the Korean version was translated by MayBee (who wrote some of Lee Hyori's repertoire + a bunch of 1st gen sensations like Jang Nara, Turbo's Jongkook, Yangpa, Harisu, etc). It was not promoted in music shows.

I personally like this rendition and I believe Hyori's voice suited the song. However, the original is so much better. It's more powerful and pleasant in Moore's voice, plus the music video is quite iconic. The choreo, the treadmills... her mind!!!! Meanwhile, Hyori's video is absolutely underwhelming in every single way. Directors hate her!

@berserkboi (10): As good as the Paula Abdul song!

@Kneehigh Girl (4): This song is just not for me.

Another escándalo happening! And once again I'm being the biggest supporter of a latin-concept Baek Ji Young song. Not surprising, I guess, but just like the salsa I am SAD.

"Sad Salsa" is one of the singles off her second album, "Rouge". It was released in 2000 - I'm not sure if before or after the scandal, but I believe it was before - and became one of her biggest hits. I don't know why it's named this way.

I think it's my favorite latin-concept Baek song? Most of them are 10s but still. I think it's possibly the one that dwells the most on the concept, which might be a reason for me enjoying it. Also, her outfit at ~2:15 is such goals. She looked so good in it. Sad it didn't make the top half of the rate.

★★★

@berserkboi (7,7): Very inviting melody!

Ah, Lexy. The first *cough* victim *cough* female soloist from YG. Fun fact: she was the "rival" of Lee Hyori back then, had a hit debut album, then flopped in the second one, left YG, released some stuff after that, and just vanished. Just 1st gen things.

"Ae Song" is one of the singles from her debut album and probably her most famous hit? I mean, most of the first album was successful, but this one seems to be the most covered by other idols and the one that appears in lists. Anyway, this song was also featured in Pump It Up Exceed (aka the one that had BoA), and funnily enough, I don't remember If I've played it, but I do remember the cat girl bga??? I remember thinking it was cute - I just don't recall if I saw the bga by playing it or seeing other people play it. In the end, it wasn't the ultimate song discovery to me, compared to other 1st gen hits.

While I was listening to this song right now, I was like "...why did I just give it 7,5", then I heard the chorus and it started making sense. Her voice doesn't sound too pleasant to my ears there? A shame because I like the rest. 7,5 might still be an underscore on my end and right now it would be at least an 8, maybe an 8,5. In a cover version by some idol, I could see myself scoring a 9 even.

Anyway, Girls is also a bop, stream it.

★★★

@berserkboi (10): What a bop!!!

@Kneehigh Girl (9): Lexy’s first album had so many bops! This is one of them (Girls and Let Me Dance are also massive bops)

Did I suddenly run away after seeing that this was being eliminated and I am, once again, the highest score in this latinophobic rate?????? No! But I'm still sad nonetheless!!

Our Korean Livin' La Vida Loca (but not as good) is the lead single off her album "Rouge", which means both singles are leaving back to back - well, kinda. I don't think this is as good as the already eliminated latin bops, but it's still great. No low scores for this either - just not too many high scores as well.

The video is basically a drama - she is a star but also a femme fatale. She has a loved one but one day he sees her getting kidnapped and doesn't do anything. The thing is that she saw him doing nothing and now wants revenge. Absolutely nothing to do with the song, but well. By the way, if you're gonna watch it, there is a suicide scene in it, so beware and be safe.

★★★

@berserkboi (8): A more accomplished bop!

Sorry, it's been a hectic week between volunteering, tests, and uni. Furthermore, I'm not exactly in a good mood after what happened here yesterday. However, as I have some deadlines incoming for next week, I'd like to at least do something this week.

Yeehaw!

...I actually have nothing to say here? ddddddd I find no information about this woman on the internet that isn't in Korean and I can't speak Korean dddddddddddddd apparently she retired? Or at least her latest mini-album (from 2018) was translated as "Parting Album" by Google Translate. I believe this is a song from it?

Anyway, about our entry here: I like her outfits more than the song. Ooops. Not a bad one, it's just not a style I'm particularly keen to listen to. It makes for a good album filler. Ah, apparently, some girls from Rainbow did a cover of it, but I couldn't find it. Sorry!

★★★

@berserkboi (9,2): What a cute rush!

@Kneehigh Girl (5): This would’ve been an okay album-filler, but that’s about it. Nothing special.
