1st Gen Female Soloists - The Rate - Who paved the way?

Also, it's worth mentioning a few co-ed groups that also had some impact.

Koyote (1998 - present) - they still release singles pretty much every year, so there is a fair amount of content to delve into

S#arp (1998 - 2002)

Space A (1997 - 2003)

(Special @Ezz mention because of the Sash! sampling)

Two Two (1994 - 1996)

Turtles (2001 - 2008)

Sash! and co-ed! This is catnip, thank you!

Speaking of co-ed groups, there was one that was compared a lot to Koyote back when they debuted (somewhere between 2005 and 2007, I think). I'm pretty sure they only had one album. If I remember correctly, it had one female and two male members. The song they used for promotion was a dance song, but had some classical instruments as well (it might've sampled some classical songs, by Mozart or whatever).

Does anyone know what group I'm talking about? I'm still on a nostalgia trip, and this is bothering me so much!

Can't wait for the eliminations!!!! We're almost there!!

Edit: Never mind, they were called Typhoon. MBCKpop is the best Youtube-channel when on nostalgia trips.

So, the plan was to hit at least 10 voters.

And we did it!!

Thank you, angels.

We won't have a standard leaderboard due to the number of people, but I thought of something else.

I'm almost done with the spreadsheet, so expect the first elimination today after my class.

And I hope that those who didn't vote can still take some time to listen to the songs as they are getting eliminated, as the focus here is to introduce some of these legends.

I'll try to do two eliminations a day, but I can only guarantee one. Ah, apologies in advance for some banners not looking so good, because it was... a challenge to find specific pics, so I went with a screenshot of a 360p performance. dd

Let me just say beforehand that I won't be able to write long write-ups for most of the songs, because I can't find much information about them and I can't speak Korean (soon, perhaps!).

"Illusion", or "Hwansang", is one of Ji Yoon's singles from "Coming of Age Ceremony", and it was the ballad of them all. I personally prefer "Song of Moonlight", which wasn't in the rate because I decided to prioritize songs with music videos (on Youtube). I believe this would have done way better, but I wonder how much better.

It was pretty much doomed from the get-go. Its best position was 74th place, whilst it remained last four times. (FYI I kept track of every single position change after a ballot was entered). The tragic song with tragic clip ended up in a tragic position, so it's fitting.

Also, yes, of course the first song out in a rate of mine is a ballad dddd and I pretty much overscored this for no reason whatsoever? Maybe I was more in the mood on that day, plus I like her voice, so... I can't say it was robbed or something, as I had slightly lower scores.

You can watch the mv, a performance, and a cover by Red Velvet's Wendy below.

@berserkboi (9,5): Pretty ballad

Enough about AVA though. She is not leaving now.

And we are back with another song by Park Ji Yoon. "Can You?" (or "You Know How To do It?"), "Hal Jul Areo?" in Korean, was one of the singles for her sixth album, "Woo~ Twenty One". It's a ~funky song with peak 2003 Korean comedy.

Well, I do like the song (hence, an 8), but I have to admit the score would have been way lower if I took the MV into account - which I also confess it was the first time I've ever watched it. To sum it up.

Fortunately, the live performance goes the sensual route, which makes it more likable again. By the way, I've seen a few people in the comments section comparing it to Beyoncé's "Work It Out", so I'll just embed it below and let you all decide for yourselves.

@berserkboi (8): Nice song!
