Escaping the Bottom 5, but not the Bottom 10, we have Hot Sauce by NCT Dream, one of the songs people were sure wouldn't last very long. I completely understand why many people hate this (the nonsense mumbling hook, the super high pitched demonic chorus) but... I like it! It's catchy! It's ~fun~! The latin flavor could be eyeroll-worthy and tired, but the addition of afrobeat into the mix makes it kinda fresh? Another strong point for the me is the pre-chorus (and basically any part where the vocalists can actually sing. All those bits are great).

@FunkyButChic (1) is not a fan of the parts I described, I guess: “Generic is fine. Chaotic is fine. Some hybrid attempt at both… no. This is abhorrent ya’ll. The descending scale mumble loop was bad enough then they started chanting and it’s off enough to feel utterly demonic. If they had committed for the whole thing, I might have been charmed. That it’s mixed with the by-the-numbers bits just makes me want to punish them for half-assing it. 1 point for the sick breakdown though.” The good sis @nikkysan (1) is probably happy with this quick elimination: “I have zero idea on whether this or Sticker will he eliminated first but my commentary for Sticker also applies to this song. But so I don’t repeat myself, my eardrums literally hurt after hearing this.”

@eatyourself (0) admits: “This song makes me want to PUNCH someone. Also the complete disrespect to Latino's artistry.” Nñn but really, isn't this basically an uncleared sample? ANY Brazilian that listens to this will immediately know what it sounds like. @bbynewyear (6) says: “The shrieking chorus and Jeno's Taeyong cosplay stop me from returning to this track. But I appreciate that Hot Sauce and Hello Future comitted to making sure Dream sounded distinct from the other NCT sub units.“

Baby NCTzen @boombazookajoe (10) reminisces: “The song and comeback that turned me into a full blown NCT stan (prior to this, I had only really started to listen to WayV.)” @Slice of Life (10) enjoys a bit of joyful noise: “A racket….. but I can’t make the music not bop, right?”

I always feel like I'm about 2-3 listens from this growing on me... and it hasn't even come close fff. It seems they took a 127 track but needed to differentiate it somehow, so they pitched it into the stratosphere – I'm guessing as an homage to their Kidz Bop days? Never mind that these are full-grown men at this point, they really never sounded like that to begin with. Abominable!

The rest of the track's rather good, so it becomes a classic case of opportunity cost. Let's hope this comeback fares better!

NCT Dream stays the worst subunit from their pyramid scheme group! A reverse Midas expedition, everything they touch turns into trash.

Knowing Latino's career is entirely based on covers and uncleared samples, I'm sure both him and NCT were referencing someone else. We just got to discover who! I suspect it might be from a 2000s Gasolina-like bop.
Y’all don’t deserve their comeback tomorrow!
Exactly bestie!! None of us do, and still they keep on threatening it upon us!! @SMtown MAKE IT STAHPPPP!!!!

Bit surprised Hot Sauce left that early, but it's fine. Their new track is good but a bit tepid, which I'm a little sad about.

Ditto on the art direction for the Hot Sauce era (and onwards) being excellent though. They do really well in that arena.

NCT and Team Hero both take another hit as we lose the confusingly-titled Universe (Let's Play Ball). Y'all, the first time I clicked play on this MV I was immediately ready to HATE it, those first 30 seconds or so are like sonic torture... @bbynewyear (6,5) makes me cackle with his commentary: “That opening…. One of those songs you rush to skip when your friends are over. On the bright side the choreo and chorus are solid and fun.” And he's right on the later! the longer the song went on and its different parts unfurled, the better it got, especially the chorus which is just very very nice. I love the vocal production on it? Even the subsequent repetitions of the "let's play ball" hook became more tolerable as they changed from just that super dry and loud Mark take to a more chant-like one accompanied by more production.

NCT put @drod93's (4) brain to work overtime a bitsy: “I don't get the point of this song. I tend to like their noise, but this broke me” fffffffff not BROKE me. @boombazookajoe (10) wonders the same as me (and I guess most of us) but still bops: “I have no idea what the Let's Play Ball tag has to do with any other part of the song and I don't care. A smash. The production during the verses is so dirty. Shotaro and Xiaojun are the stars here.” Honestly if I squint a little I guess the connection in the title and lyrics is... something about stars and victory and shooting starts and shooting hoops... or something? And their love intereste is all that? It really is a lot to process.

@Slice of Life (7) confesses: “Don’t tell my fellow NCTzens but NCT U’s main singles just don’t do it for me. Pretty cute chorus tho” while @eatyourself (4) reveals brand new information: “I hate sports.” You hate non-WayV NCT too! Resident poet @askew (10) says “who up playin' they ball”

Anyway, +0.5 for having Xiaojun, -0.5 for Jeno being too covered up.
