Another sexy "hot" song gets the boot right after FEVER. Why am I having Sukhumvit Swimming flashbacks? This song reminds me of that. It's *fine* on paper but I just don't like this style, so I need more than fine to be convinced, I'm afraid. Like, I kinda wanna sing along but it also annoys me? ddd
Let's hear what the ones calling for this to leave have to say: @boombazookajoe (6,5) compliments the vocals “The boys all sound excellent and there is some fun interplay in the verses, but it's absolutely my least favorite B-Side on the album. Guess I don't have the body body rhythMMM.”while @nikkysan (3) finds no positives whatsoever “This was the only song on the Don’t Call Me album I just never grew to enjoy. The reggae sound is just tired to me now, the song doesn’t go anywhere… and the live performance they did of this gave me second hand embarrassment.”Besties... this is not worse than Marry You! Absolutely not.
@Slice of Life (10) says “The way these SHINee b-sides absolutely decimate the singles….. kinda iconique” Hmm... if we were rating CØDE or Area I would agree! @bbynewyear (4) is dozing off: “This type of beat always makes me so sleepy, besides that it's not really a sound I think SHINee (or many kpop groups) wear very well" OK you know what, I realize now I don't hate reggae-pop, I just don't like K-Pop's approach to it. The tracks with these influences are actually always my favorites on Rihanna's albums now that I think of it.
This song is not good, not sorry! SHINee at their most uninspired. The thing is, I loved their album last year, so imagine my frustration seeing this in the song list over the likes of Attention, CØDE, Heart Attack, Kiss Kiss…
Body Rhythm is just way too polite – everything about the instrumental and vocal delivery is so sanitized. When you're working with a lackadaisical reggae-lite tempo, you can't get too precious about getting your hands dirty. Say what you will about Sukhumvit Swimming (don't think I missed it catching strays @Glitterizer!!!), but the vocal delivery is... idiosyncratic, and the synth breakdown adds some much-needed texture.
Another stronger example:
(Maybe their most underrated track? God it bops!)
Speaking of SF9, Trauma can go next, or (more pressingly) the Eunki track.
Welp, it's our first ONF elimination out of 4 songs, and honestly? Yeah it was kinda obvious this one would do the worst out of them. Don't get me wrong, I really love Popping, but it's a bit too silly for the serious reviewers of KPJ. This is also our second song heavily based around a flute sound for the hook (the first being Stickuuuh). These two really show how the range of the instrument, huh? Björk's Utopia found colonized.
This song is one of those infamous ~refreshing concepts~, also known as summer comebacks, and to me it's one of the better ones! It just puts a smile on my face and makes me wanna poke a straw into a box of sugary fruit juice. No, this is not a metaphor for wanting to **** an ONF member! The melody is instantly familiar and catchy, and @boombazookajoe (8) might know why: “This is literally Bring It All Back by S Club 7 mixed with UK, Hun? and I can't decide if that is helping or hurting its' score.” I didn't know the first song (sorry olds, I'm a Zillennial) but this comparison is so accurate akjdksjddl
Also making a comparison is #1 ONF anti @soratami (3) saying “I’m sorry but this sounds like a CoComelon song” ...wtf is a CoComelon? @askew (2,25) is also not feeling very popping: “Makes my skin crawl.”. Honestly, I completely get why some people would be disgusted by this song, I really do, and I advise y'all to do the same! We have to try our best to be comprehensive and try to see things from the point of view of Tentacle Acres homeowners ♡
@FunkyButChic (10) notes: “Song of the summer for a summer that didn't really happen again. That flute is just joyous.” You're right, and actually if you read the lyrics there's a certain bittersweetness to some of the lines. The music video takes that and multiplies it times a hundred as it puts the ONF members once again in their little lore universe storyline where they are... fucking dying? I'm not sure, but I appreciate the aesthetic connection between MVs. @Slice of Life (10) has visions of glory: “Should’ve been the other ONF song that qualified for KSOTY. I just love how celebratory this song sounds!!!! If I ever get canonized as a saint, I want this to be played while images of me are wheeled by trucks across the Vatican” What's with you and the religious figure fantasies, bestie?
Let's give the final words to resident FUSE president @Wills (11), who once again doesn't give his 11 to the obvious choice: “Between you and me, I overplayed the shit out of Beautiful Beautiful last year – still a 10, but Popping claimed its throne months ago. There's something so compelling about how many parts sound like complete shit at first (the mortifying intro, the played-out flute drop chorus), only to then get recontextualized and deployed post-bridge in the most insane barrage of hooks and ideas. Hwang Hyun is a fucking genius, and I love that this encapsulates the entire doubt–epiphany cycle in a song.”
Also making a comparison is #1 ONF anti @soratami (3) saying “I’m sorry but this sounds like a CoComelon song” ...wtf is a CoComelon? @askew (2,25) is also not feeling very popping: “Makes my skin crawl.”.
