Sorry for abandoning the rate for so long, I went to see Slayyyter live
and had two 10-hour bus trips in order to do so... so I gave myself a week off x
Starting the Top 20, the moon boys lose their second and last song. Honestly, not bad for a nugu group, not bad at all! I much prefer this one too, so I'm glad it got this far. @boombazookajoe (9) comments: “Underrated group. Underrated song.”
Look, I love an experimental K-Pop bop full of twists, from my well documented devotion to Next Level and Zimzalabim to my newfound appreciation for Stickuh, but Moonlight is not that. It's a classic pop song whose biggest strength is an excellent sense of progression and build-up. Couple that with a production filled with icy, atmospheric synth pads, and this is the kind of music that feels like home to me.
@Inland Empire (9) says “I’ve never had an opinion on this group besides “oh yeah they exist”, but their showing here is honestly really strong. Someone please give them a rebrand because they sound like an insurance provider.” I... think a disband is looking more likely than a rebrand ffffffffff Their latest comeback had heavy goodbye song vibes. Might as well throw that in here along with the only Moon trilogy song that didn't compete in KPB:
Noooooo this deserved Top 10!! Their Depeche Mode-lite serve...
Anyway, Slicey's right. Why are we losing BDC when AB6IX get to continue their terrorism? Jeon Woong's abs are not worth it. Someone get Rhymer on the line I need to speak to him immediately!!
How many more great songs is Rock With You going to rob? Is this just another case of a song that's not polarizing like for example, Sticker and has just had people throwing 7s and 8s at it without many low scores so it's just managed to sneak into the upper half of the rate because of that? Because we've been bleeding really good songs the last 20-ish eliminations that unfortunately got tanked a by a few scorers while RWY is just... there.
Yes I realise I've been complaining about this song for a while now.
I think... this is the gaggiest result in the rate? Who among us could see a Golden Child b-side making it to the Top 20? I guess it shouldn't be that much of a surprise considering how successful @Attis' campaign for it was, granting this a spot in our rate with its 75 chart points (and leaving the title track in the bubbling under dust with 24 ffff), which left him free to submit something else. Props to you, mama!
I was one of the supporters, so of course I like this song well enough, I just don't love it. Again, this groovy, funky sound is not exactly my jush, but the chorus is pretty damn catchy and I can respect that... the drama of it all! So I was quite surprised by @Slice of Life's (9) commentary: “The verses are stronger than the chorus but it’s still such a bop!” I don't know, I thought the rap was pretty unecessary, but they do have some nice vocal moments leading into the second chorus!
Also enjoying the theatricality we have @eatyourself (8,75): “I love how tacky this is.” And also not enjoying the rap we have @boombazookajoe (5,5): “Second verse is really annoying. The sax outro does nothing for me.” I linked their other song that almost made the rate with its chart points, from a different album... but I didn't listen to it so I don't know if it's any good x
Fanfare is that party straight-nonsense boppery that 2PM try to achieve throughout their career and failed. Stealing Twice's Fake & True trumpet hook and using it better ? Talentry honey !
