Congratulations to NCT for their first Top 20 KBP entry! If it was going to happen, it makes sense that it would be with a B-Side... I feel their title tracks are a bit polarizing or the kind of n*ise sound that PJ gheys usually dislike.
This song is so stylish... I was sold from the first few seconds! It's so easy to like, so easy that even @eatyourself (9,75) stans: “...what is this? An NCT song I don't actually hate?” I think that's due to how much space there is here... plenty of room to breath, with all the parts flowing pretty seamlessly into each other. It already feels like things are moving a little into that direction with girl groups, but can a bit of minimalism be the next trend in K-Pop? Thanks!
@bbynewyear (10) makes a very apt comparison: “Perfect follow up to 'Music, Dance'. One of the few NCT tracks where you can't fault any part. Everything works together so well. Yes, even the raps. Yes, even 'life is a bastard'. Also drawing attention to the iconic line, we have @boombazookajoe (9): “When Mark said "Life is a bastard," I felt that. This is so immaculately produced.”
@Slice of Life (9) feels a distinct lack of my favorite NCT 127 song: “It’s no Promise You but it’s great! Finally some great representation for NCT 127 in a rate BYE! Also one of the first times I'm really feeling the impact of Yuta's voice, they need to give him more time to shine." No but that track really, really deserved a spot here and I'm disappointed nobody submitted it. Listen to it below if you haven't already!

Unfortunately this wasn't the year for a Top 10 finish for Fruity Oppa, but still a great improvement from his #31 peak last time! WOODZ just keeps getting better and better. Both of his 2022 releases were very good and packed with fun songs, so it's kind of a shame only this b-side is here. @boombazookajoe (9,5) stans the whole album: “WOODZ ended careers with this Mini Album. What a fucking monster bop.”, as does @Slice of Life (10): “WOODZ was THEE best male soloist of 2021 and I won’t hear otherwise. The way he absentmindedly put multiple 10s in a single album….. he’s SICK!!!!!!! Nothing but respect for my Fruity Oppa!!!!” I personally would have liked to see the deliciously bubbly Sour Candy here, or the title track from his single album, FEEL LIKE.
Much like that track, this song also has WOODZ giving us an electric guitar fantasy, but this time with a bit more theatricality and drama. His voice is very versatile, especially paired with this vocal production that doesn't smooth things over too much and allows the character and a bit of grit to shine through, making him sound right at home in this particular genre. Everything is layered so well, and the song builds up to a very satisfying climax. @Macsun (10) says: “wig SNATCHED!”
As some of you may know, WOODZ is an honorary Brazilian, having lived here during his teen years. My BR sister @eatyourself, however, only had room in his heart for thirst and a meager (7,5) score for him: “What app do you use to chase, WOODZ hyung?” Previous biggest-anti @bbynewyear (8) enjoys a redemption arc: “Big step up from last year's entries. Happy for him."
