It was close, and this even got as high as #6 for a little while, but it wasn't meant to be!
Listen, this fucking SHINee album... it's the definition of all killer no filler (except for Marry You)!! I think pretty much any of the b-sides here would have made for great submissions, but ultimately this one was the correct choice... so correct, in fact, that it wasn't even submitted, this charted high enough to get a spot here fffff My two other picks would have been the more electronic CØDE or the beautiful and touching Area, co-written by Minho, a song about Jonghyun's absence. I'm also glad we didn't just get a repeat of Heart Attack, which competed in KSOTY.
Like most of the album, I Really Want You is just SHINee doing what they do best: spectacle, amazing layered vocals, extremely catchy and funky, but to me what sets it apart is the same thing @Slice of Life (9,5) chose to comment on: “That fucking Onew middle 8……….. we are ascending!!!!!!!!!!!” No cause the way he ate and left no crumbs, no plate, NO TABLE. Anyway, it's insane that this is a song that most boy groups would die to have on their back catalogue as a single, but for SHINee it's just a random B-side that didn't get an MV or even any stages... which is a bit criminal.
Making comparisons we have @boombazookajoe (10) “My B-Side of the year. A euphoric burst of pure joy. The boys sound incredible. The Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' cosplay really works for them.” and @eatyourself (10) “THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE A CHORUS!!!!! Not to be that girl but this would shatter our astral plane if it were released by Red Velvet.” It already shattered our astral plane being released by SHINee, bestie x
