Is KPB fair? A fair game? What does it mean to be fair in a game?

Let's take a sport like, I don't know, volley, football, whatever. "I kicked the ball 80 times"... and so what? They didn't go in. You lost. So it is fair. If the referee doesn't make a mistake, if there's no external interference, if all rules are followed, that is fair.

A dice? It is fair. When you throw the dice there's equal chance of getting a 6, a 1, a 5, a 4.

Is KPB fair? That's where things start to get more complicated. Because it is up to the voters and the criteria that people make up their head to rate a song.

There are people that think that the entertainment factor always has to be there. There are people who tank the fan-favorite, because that's always entertaining. There are others that shower them with 10s, because that is what they think is fair. There are even those who would give their 11 to an obvious first-out.

There's a more pragmatic crowd who simply votes, believes in their votes, and that's the end of it, who cares about entertainment, fan-favorites or not? To them, it's simple: I'm voting to reward the song I like the most. Is that fair? Of course it's fair, it's in the rules.

This last stretch of the rate has put into conflict different visions, different tastes. Here we have at stake fandom loyalties, madness, thirst, friendships, underdogs, acceptance, cringe, earnestness, genres, genders, straight words and crooked lines... we have absolutely everything. I wonder what prevailed?

When I reveal this result, some people will find it very, very, very shocking and upsetting. Others will gayly laugh with glee. It depends on which KPJ crowd you're part of and what these male K-Pop songs mean to you. There will be cries of unfairness.

But how much is it worth going down in history?

How much is it worth not ever being forgotten?

Because in that sense, you've won your prize.

You've showed yourself and your colors, you were celebrated, and your impact can't be overstated, even if only just on our funny little corner of the world wide web.

You will always be welcomed back with open arms.

You are an example to all nugu boy groups yet to come

who may also dare, one day,

to be beautiful.

@drod93 (10) “It would've been my eleven, but I decided to help my man out”

@boombazookajoe (8) “It really is such a cute song with a great message, and started the YEAR of ONF, but I have to echo my sentiments from the KSOTY rate that it gives me The Warblers A Capella And That's What You Missed On Glee at times.”

@nikkysan (11) “You’re immediately hit with the hook of “brram-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum”, which is one of the biggest earworms I've heard in a pop song in years. It grabs hold of you and will not let go. The song is a wonderful blend of futuristic nu-disco and funk, with another anthemic chorus, singing about how you yourself, not a lover or anyone else, are beautiful and you are not going to let the world get you down. One common misconception about boy groups is that a lot of their songs are sappy love songs, and while that can be true, ONF is a boy group who definitely do not tick all of those boxes, the lyrics throughout this album are not the stereotypical stuff you would expect. And even if you don’t understand Korean, the melodies and hooks are enough to get you drawn in. The highlight for me is the acapella-scatting bridge which leads back into one big victory lap of a final chorus. This is without a doubt my favourite k-pop song of the year, and up there as one of my favourite pop songs ever at this point.”
