Hi, everyone! I know that this rate has been a long time coming, and I'm excited to finally get this on the road.

Let me begin by saying a few things about my experiences in stanning for Michelle Branch all these years. I still remember the first time I heard the now-familiar strains of guitar that would begin her first hit, "Everywhere". I was just coming fresh off my late 90s/early '00s boy band phase, and I needed someone new to cling to in a sea of variety. So I'm driving to school with my best friend, and I hear those guitar chords. And I'm driving along, jamming, thinking "yeah, this girl's got some chops." Then comes that line, "you're everywhere, you're EVERYWHERE". and BOOM - a wall of guitar, and some of the best power pop inflected vocals to come out of the early '00s. I just remember thinking "okay, I need to hear more of this girl like immediately. I wonder who she is?" (oh, the days without Shazaam).

From there, I was determined to find her. It wasn't long after that my cousin told me her name - Michelle Branch. She also burned me a copy of the album "The Spirit Room", which I immediately ran home to listen to. By the time I finished spinning the album, I was hooked. I knew that I would be laminating my Michelle Branch Stan Card, and have been a card-carrying member ever since.

It's been a rollercoaster of ups and downs for us loyal Michelle followers. We've been through country albums (included here for those of you who love it), scrapped albums (West Coast Time anyone?), and a return to pop that was inarguably one of the best things to come out of 2017. Some fans may have moved on, but we kept hope that there was more to come. What's next on the horizon? More music, hopefully sooner than the next decade.

okay that was slightly shady but still...

Anyway, enough of my story. Onto the good stuff!

    - Rate each song on a scale of 0 to 10. Remember that you get one song for your 11, so choose wisely!

    - If you are going to use decimals, try to stick to .1 or .25 incrementals (.1, .2, .25, etc.)

    - Commentary is not required, but is highly encouraged! (I love reading your thoughts on songs.)

    - Once you have your scores and any commentary complete, please send them to me in a private message. Final votes will be due on Thursday, June 20th at 10:00 AM PST.

    Spotify Playlist

Any songs I couldn't find on Spotify are linked to YouTube/Soundcloud. HUGE shoutout to @LKane for finding a ton of stuff I couldn't seem to locate.

    Broken Bracelet
    Washing Machine
    Paper Pieces
    Stewart's Coat
    I'll Always Be Right There
    Second Chances
    Leap of Faith

This album contains several early versions of tracks that would end up on "The Spirit Room". I removed them for the sake of the playlist, but you're welcome to rate them in place of the later versions if you wish.

    The Spirit Room
    Everywhere
    You Get Me
    All You Wanted
    You Set Me Free
    Something to Sleep To
    Here with Me

    Goodbye to You
    Drop in the Ocean

    Life on Mars?

    Hotel Paper

    Tuesday Morning
    One of These Days

    Hotel Paper
    ‘Til I Get Over You
    It’s You

    Wanting Out
    Lay Me Down
    A Case of You

I removed the "Intro", as I don't feel it really needs to be rated. Also, I included the solo version of "Lay Me Down" - this version and The Wreckers' version below will be two separate scores, as I feel they have a slightly different style/sound.

Stand Still, Look Pretty (The Wreckers)
    Leave the Pieces
    Way Back Home
    The Good Kind
    Tennessee
    My, Oh My
    Stand Still, Look Pretty

    Ready to Let You Go
    Sooner or Later
    I Want Tears
    Crazy Ride
    Summertime
    Everything Comes and Goes

All the tracks below are songs that were supposed to be on the full length version of this album, but ended up left off.

    Show Me a Sign
    Long Goodbye (with Dwight Yoakam)
    Texas in the Mirror

  3. ...and now you may post.

Have fun, and remember - rating Breathe anything less than a 9 is grounds for a scalping.

    Enjoy!

  4. I am not ready.
    I am not worthy.

    But I am here nonetheless.

  5. I really should take part in this, but I'm on a no-rates PJ diet for the moment.

She's an artist I have quite a bit of music by, but never quite got on top of it all.

Seventeen Days and Sprockrooster like this.
  6. Are we not including West Coast Time?

Eric Generic and LKane like this.
  7. Okay so I might be doing this.

    Seventeen Days likes this.
  8. I'll be voting. I've only heard her music from The Spirit Room, Hotel Paper, and Hopeless Romantic, so the rest of it should be interesting.

    Seventeen Days likes this.
  9. I'm scared. I fear I'll have about 8 11's...

Seventeen Days and LKane like this.
  10. So to get a taste of her music, I'm listening to the YouTube mix which starts with Everywhere, and yeah I'm definitely doing this.

Seventeen Days and DJHazey like this.
  11. Double post sorry, but I realized why I recognized her, and was interested in doing this in the first place: she performs Goodbye to You at the Bronze in one of my favorite episodes of Buffy, as well as at P3 in one of my favorite episodes of Charmed, and I always loved the song, I just neglected to check out her music until now.

  12. @Seventeen Days naming the rate after her best song? Are we going to agree this time around? I’m shook.

berserkboi and Seventeen Days like this.
  13. I need I'd Rather Be in Love to make the Top 10.

  14. I wasn't sure if I should include it, since it was mostly left unreleased. But I guess if I included the unreleased tracks on 'Everything Comes and Goes', then it's probably a good idea.

Eric Generic, LKane and Shockbox like this.
  15. Wait a second...

WHERE IS GETAWAY? (aka one of the biggest bops of her entire discography...)

  16. I am so excited for this!!!! Thank you so much for doing it @Seventeen Days !!! Michelle is my #1. There are some unreleased songs that I would like to consider, because they need to be heard:

    From the 'Hotel Paper' era:
    Now That I found you
Strange - This was part of the album "Remembering Patsy Cline". Couldn't find the studio version on youtube or spotify, so maybe it's ok to skip this one.

From the 'Everything comes and goes' era:
Play with fire (song that was available for free on her website)
I'm not gonna follow you home
    Jack & Jim
    Down to the River
    When the morning comes

All tracks from West Coast Time:
    Loud Music
    Spark
    Walk Again
    What Don't Kill Ya
    Mastermind
    For Dear Life
    (Dancing) I Don't feel like
    Happen to call
    Smoke and feathers
    Here we go again
    Just let me in
    Another Sun

    From the 'Hopeless Romantic' era
    A Horse with no name
    Creep

    Others:
    Sunset Cigarette

Seventeen Days and Eric Generic like this.
  17. Wow, making me feel like a flop fan @LKane! THANK YOU for finding all of these gems - I'm going to add them all right away.

I also added Getaway for @CasuallyCrazed, so that is now in the Extras section.

  18. Thank you!!!

Now I need all of y'all to 10 "Getaway" please.

  19. Will definitely do this.

Curious to see how the Hopeless Romantic tracks end up doing in the end. There's some gems on there.
