ABBA

A nice shot I've never seen before. Shame someone schlopped that CD logo on it.

Another interesting alt pic. Looks like Alexander Bard crashed it and tried to replace Benny.

Frida looks so very sad.

Funnily enough, the cover used on the reissues where the logo is in the middle is actually a slightly different shot to the original LP cover.

Look at the positioning of Agnetha’s head. Bjorn’s hand is also placed differently on the chair

Allegedly the original photo was lost, but since then has been used on vinyl re-issues (and I don’t think they were all scans).

The 2001 and after Waterloo CD also has a different photo from the original. Very few differences but Frida’s hand is the giveaway. Her thumb and finger are slightly closer together on the 2001 version.

The Visitors and Waterloo are the only CD issues where photos differ, but the coloured vinyl 7” boxes all use alternate shots, and the yearly Happy New Year releases seem to have a different photo from the same Super Trouper shoot each year.

I quite like the photo on The Visitors singles box - they’re all looking at the camera. I hadn’t seen that before.

great to see an expanded compilation including the Voyage tracks. As usual with ABBA releases, we’ll see how strong the mastering is. It’s always so patchy. Compressed to hell, too loud, wrong mixes used etc.

I kind of don’t like that the set closes with “No Doubt About It”, that feels like a very abrupt ending.

Also disappointing that “The Visitors” is missing. It was a single in various parts of the world, although not all, but the same could be said for “Eagle” and “Angeleyes”.

Very interesting move not to include “Thank You For The Music” too.

I love that it's called 'The First Fifty Years'. Fridatron3000 will ensure we get more.

Do not love the choice of cover shot though.

...but it was (just about) released in 2022, which meets the criteria of the title.

On and On and On should be there over something like Love Isn't Easy.

On and On and On should be there over something like Love Isn't Easy.

If they’re pushing that as a singles set, you’re quite right - On and On and On was a single in more places around the world than Lay All Your Love On Me was.

That early singles run is really strange as they weren’t officially a group and weren’t working on an album until 3 or 4 singles in. Love Isn’t Easy was a Swedish single but it didn’t do very well and there’s actually no record of its release dates anywhere. Another Town, Another Train was also a single in various places.

Hasta Manana was only a single in a handful of places too, and failed to chart in quite a few.
