ABBA

However, Angeleyes was only ever a UK A-Side and Eagle was a Polydor single in mainland Europe. Both are on the new compilation.
Angeleyes was a US single A-side as well, though a separate release from Voulez-Vous. Angeleyes did slightly better there than Voulez-Vous, peaking at number 64, against V-V’s number 80.

Eagle was a Polar single. The only four on this new compilation that weren’t are Hasta Mañana, Angeleyes, Lay All Your Love on Me and When All Is Said and Done.

Is there a reason Thank You For The Music isn't included on this new set?

I know I'd much rather have had that than He Is Your Brother or Love Isn't Easy.

Not a Polar A-side and not a big enough hit on its own in any major market/country considered important enough. The same goes for The Visitors.

On and On and On was top 10 in France and Australia. France is usually ignored but Australia is often considered important enough even though its market/population wasn’t massive.

Hasta Mañana is the real odd one out here, not a huge hit anywhere significant and not a Polar single but its inclusion probably ties in with the Eurovision anniversary. It was seriously considered as ABBA’s entry as it was thought to be more standard Eurovision fare at the time than Waterloo, but as it was an Agnetha lead it wasn’t representative of the group as a whole. Thankfully Waterloo was chosen - the last 50 years could have been quite different otherwise.

I am warming more and more to this set. DO wish that the icy masterpiece The Visitors was included, but I get why all the same. 78-82, is their best period overall for me.

Charted at #17, which cements their legacy of never having a top 10 charting album that didn't get to No. 1

Consequently, Gold has dropped out of the charts entirely after more than 10 consecutive years in the top 200.

New 7" vinyls for Happy New Year and Little Things - purely for artistic reasons and not a cash grab at all.

A.k.a. the unsold copies of Little Things because people soon worked out it was their worst recorded song in 48 years.

That white vinyl is cute though.

THIS.
I think “I Saw It In The Mirror” and “Man In The Middle” are still marginally worse though. Thankfully they’re not thrust upon us as A side singles.

Hmm okay. The design is giving budget release.
The Japanese version, admittedly in the dreaded 7-inch CD format, is surprisingly deluxe with two posters, expanded booklet and vinyl-replica cd mount. I pre-ordered this version not knowing it would be different from the hardcover media book style seen everywhere else.

Aaaand Gold is back in the Top 20, meaning The Singles' sales dropped rapidly, so the streams go to the higher shifter of units. Oyyyy.

They should just add Faith and Don't Shut Me Down to Gold and call it a day. Or maybe do a revised double Gold with missing important singles. It's stupid to keep on putting out new compilations when ABBA Gold is an entity in itself.
