ABBA

On the way to Abba Voyage for my nephew’s ten birthday. Got Frida’s Twist In The Dark and Shine as my playlist before I go (no doubt thanks to @Mikey1701 spamming plug dj with her years ago).

Has anyone ever had any trouble with the gift box from Ticketmaster? Got my mam a ticket for Christmas and wanted her to have the box to open, Ticketmaster told me to contact Sandbox who told me they never received my details from TM. I’ve made other arrangements now but what a faff

A good ranking! Don't Shut me Down has done pretty well considering you've used playcounts from the last 17 years. I thought it might have dropped in my rankings a bit over time, but I still think it sits alongside their best material. That second chorus still gives me tingles...

I love how they keep finding random things to hawk.

I'm shocked they haven't flogged a b-sides & rarities album yet. Tracks like 'I Am The City', 'Should I Laugh Or Cry', 'Elaine', 'Lovelight' etc.

Listening to all their work it is surprising at times how the albums are so badly sequenced. Especially Arrival and Voulez-Vous. Anyway, a new rank for 2025 -

Super Trouper
The Album
Arrival
ABBA
Voulez-Vous
The Visitors
Voyage
Ring Ring
Waterloo

What's this about? I mean, there's no mixes or b-sides.. is it remastered?
Was it in a Tiktok?

The vocals are a bit more buried by the the instrumental

The beat is very loud

Lots of changes - the riff after each line of the verse, the pre chorus to chorus 2 etc

The “I beg of yooooou ooooooooh” is notably different.

Definitely not as bad a job as Waterloo but not altogether great really.

There’s never been a rarities disc on its own but they’re included on so many boxsets and compilations now, it would be a bit of a redundant set. The 40th Anniversary Gold came with a 3rd disc of just b-sides. Maybe RSD
exclusive would be good?

I get why people dislike it, but I really love the Waterloo album. My Mama Said, Dance (etc), Hasta Manana, What About Livingston, Gonna Sing You My Love Song are all gems. I even really enjoy Sitting In The Palmtree and Watch Out.

On the flip side, Super Trouper is an album I very rarely listen to in full. It’s….fine. I’ve always found it far less exciting than Voulez-Vous.

Current album rank:

The Visitors
The Album
Voulez-Vous
ABBA
Arrival
Waterloo
Super Trouper
Voyage

I never really got back at all to Voyage, it really doesn't feel anything top tier ABBA a handful of tracks aside.

If it didn’t have Shittle Things plonked at track 3 and Just A Notion sticking out like a sore thumb (as good as it is, it should’ve been a bonus track), it would be better.

If they’d kept going with Hit By A Train and My Story Ends With You, it would’ve been interesting to see I how they’d sound and we could play around with the running order etc.

As it stands, it feels more like a random collection of songs, some very strong, rather than an album.

However, nothing on Voyage is as dire as I Saw It In The Mirror and Me & Bobby & Bobbys Brother. Bleuuggh.
