ABBA

I'm not convinced by this. I can't think of any technical reason why they would render the ABBAtars CGI live every night, when the concerts are all identical. It would be an incredibly inefficient (and frankly unreliable) way of doing things, when you can just render each song as a pre-made video clip and play it out.

Given how long it takes to render off one frame of a Pixar movie, I'd go as far to say it's unlikely to be feasible to render the ABBAtars CGI live every night.

Perhaps the LED video wall needs to cool down? But even that would be surprising, given that Voyage is no longer than any other concert or TV show making extensive use of huge video walls.

It is 1 screen used throughout the whole show. The whole show is effectively a pre-made video clip. Even during DYMK, the screen is still on to give the illusion that the stage goes further back than it does.

Ludvig and Svana have confirmed that it doesn’t need to cool down. That was just a fan theory early on in the show.

For folks who have gone to ABBA Voyage, what are your opinions on best seats? I’m keen to go but a little overwhelmed by what to book etc.
If you have the funds for it, I would recommend one of the dance booth tickets. That was the one I did, it was nice because there was one section of it with couches and then down a level was a mini-dancefloor. When I went, there were only five total people in the booth (out of a potential 10 or 12 spots), so there was a ton of room to spread around and it did not feel very claustrophobic.

Cheers for this, that sounds pretty cool!

Planning a trip to Voyage for girlfriend’s birthday, those of you who’ve been would you advise a hotel near to venue or elsewhere - I’m wondering what there is in the area to do pre/post-event?

There’s not much around the ABBA arena at all.

My usual hotel is the Premier Inn London City (Tower Hill). Link below. It’s 2 mins walk from Tower Gateway DLR and 5 mins from Tower Hill tube station.

The arena is at Pudding Mill Lane DLR so you can get the DLR eastbound and change at Poplar northbound. Very easy.

Plus you’re then central on the district and circle line from Tower Hill to get round to Embankment, which then puts you right in the centre of London and walking distance from Soho, Covent Garden and the west end.

Thanks @RidesOnTheBreeze - good to have some first hand knowledge. Need a decent bar afterward to go revel in the post event excitement!

Fucking hell. That might be one of the best things I’ve ever seen. I didn’t think I’d cry but the final song into that moment right at the end - sobbing. The whole thing was electrifying, there were moments where my feet didn’t touch the floor. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t actually them there at points. Just absolutely incredible.

Yeah, I sobbed at that bit too!

I’ve seen it 9 times and I think I’ve only made it through the show once without shedding a tear. And it’s something different that triggers me everytime.

It was “I Still Have Faith In You” on opening night. But I have also sobbed at the ending. And one time, the sheer power of hearing 3500 people singing “Chiquitita” really made me well up.

I saw The Amateur today - which was great - and there was a scene where the main character switched out a jukebox CD for a coded data disc, and the CD he chose - ABBA Gold! No track played but I yeeked when it appeared on screen.
