Sorry this is basically "I'm watching the show" thread but I was NOT expecting Ms. Brunson and the writers to spotlight Parable of the Sower, a book I just finished listening to like a month ago. I had to replay that line to make sure I heard her right!
It's an incredible book for anyone who hasn't read/listened to it yet. Like, if I could choose one book that everyone should read, that'd be my choice.
The novel eerily starts in the year 2024 and the parallels to the modern USA are shocking, and even insightful. The dialogues barely touched on the novel itself and were, as usual, a series of kii's that Ava knocked out of the park. But it's just really cool to see a show that engages with timely and timeless ideas that are especially relevant to Black Americans. The thesis statement from Ms. Inez (LOVE hats) about diversity being CRITICAL in times of strife, and how the people of Abbott Elementary are putting in the work to do that every day even while they're being extremely messy... my heart!
Quinta's on my shortlist of "celebs to get a coffee with" now, for sure. I'm most of the way through season 3 and am already pre-emptively grieving when I run out of episodes.
I can't believe how fucking messy Gregory was in the double date episode dhfhdghhj. And if he still doesn't come out and tell Janine at this point, I'm going to scream a bit.
