AcceleRATE: Biggest Pop Girls of 2018

Gaga's country strong stuff already tanking straight to the bottom....

Ally Maine will at least scrape something out in the upper echelon surely.

He/Him
Good Lord this ballad was the definition of DULL. I was there expecting something other than Mooper being a pain to hear and Gaga belting to happen, and it didn't. @RJF snarky commentary is sending me

Right on time, it's Mirwais Ahmadzaï with a frankly obscene 8.5/10, "I don’t exactly know why I like this song so much?" Maybe it's because you're married, trash

[...]

happiestgirl does not sound like the happiest of girls as they give this a 3/10, saying, "This sounds like the kind of song old couples slow dance to on cruise ships." Yeah, like the Titanic! *hyuck hyuck hyuck*

Sis have you kept up with the Sweetener thread? Most members have come round to it.

Myself included.

I might be wrong, but I don't think those threads have that much correlation with the BPG rates. From the A Star Is Born thread, you wouldn't think people would be giving the soundtrack such low averages here, in 2016 Joanne did a bit worse than its thread suggested, and this year Sweetener seems to be getting a way more mixed reaction here than in the thread. Point is, I don't use threads as barometer, though they can be mildly indicative. Those threads contain more die hard fans so they're more open to letting songs grow.

I mean, to an extent I agree with you but general perception is not the same as song specific reception; the conversation around A Star Is Born has been dominated by the pop star songs and Shallow/Always Remember Us This Way/I’ll Never Love Again. While perception by large was positive that doesn’t mean every individual song will receive a positive score. Same with Joanne; the polarizing songs went out early and the more “obvious” pop songs rose to the top. We’ve seen that same thing happen with Sweetener; The Light is Coming bombed out right where most would expect.

There’s also the sheer mass of PJ members who are going to be a part of any big pop girl album discussion regardless of how much they stan the artist. Sweetener was undoubtedly the big pop release of 2018; it’s going to have an array of people actively participating in the conversation because it’s a significant part of pop music right now. That’s the case with most of these albums, though Sweetener surely has the largest fan base participating of any of these releases.

What I’m getting at is that yes, I think the album threads can be skewed but most members on the forum who are participating here are going to also participate in the big pop thread discussions on the regular. I think the elimination order in general is fairly easy to place songs in low-middle-high if you’ve kept up with the forum’s general consensus of any of these albums.

Let's get this roast a-cookin' with my favourite thot, Beautiful Child 2, "Insipid pastiche." but enough about your performance compared to the iconic PantaponRose. One of our high scorers CorgiCorgiCorgi tells us something that we already been knew, "Lady Gaga invented alt-country" and happiestgirl does that thing y'all sometimes do where you try and thread a narrative through your commentary thinking people actually read it and not thinking about the fact that sometimes we don't even eliminate the songs in the order of the tracklisting, "I really, really don’t want to listen to Bradley Cooper. At least this one is more ‘murdering someone’ country-pop and less ‘I am in love’ country-pop" The only murder occurring here is of Glenn Close's chances at an Oscar next month, boo.

Verandi makes a last-ditch plea to not be carted off to conversion camp, "Help I shouldn't like this kind of stuff." No you shouldn't. See you in six months. Meanwhile, Ana Raquel speaks for 98% of the Popjustice populace, "I may overscore every song that is slightly uptempo, oop." I feel... not that attacked, actually. Taste! paperboyfriendd speaks for 99% of the Popjustice populace, "I don’t hate this as much as some of the other songs on this album, but I still hate it quitea lot. Where are the SYNTHS? Where is the FUN?" Men don't have fun in music sis. tylerc904 makes the mistake of thinking that is fit to lick the boots of the only Gaga album in the last three years worth mentioning, "The Joanne jumped out!" bit much considering this song is about graves babe. Solenciennes did have commentary but it was quite crap so we'll just give her the shout-out and keep what she said away from your delicate eyes.

Part of me wishes I had the energy to get my soapbox out yet again with people not understanding the genius of Joanne, but part of me just wants this elimination over so here's Raichu with a steamed take, "Continues the soundtrack’s ethos of unoriginality. Male vocals continue to grate. Tries to be funky and somehow ends up being one of the most boring things here. Praying that Gags got all the Dad Rock out of her system with “Joanne” and this album." I mean Gagger's whole career has been informed by dad rock sis, but go off. We close with Sprockrooster, who apparently lost enough blood to give this full marks, "An instant fave and definitely a more raw sound I would love to see Gaga explore more as she sounds a great fit for it. Please work with Alabama Shakes queen!" Yes to the Alabama Shakes. No to whatever you seem to think the Alabama Shakes sound like to have had any influence on this luke-warm mess.
