Addison Rae - "Headphones On" + Addison (Jun 6)

The Selena
Christ. It’s a phrase. It doesn’t need to be taken literally because it wasn’t meant as such. It’s not even that serious. Why does this feel like a drag race season 17 fight when it’s much more something out of season 5 it’s not that serious.

Has anyone streamed High Fashion? You should stream high fashion.
Literally not a single person in this thread is taking any of this seriously.

Now the High Fashion? That is serious.

It's a good song! I will once again believe her commitment to ~art~ when she gets ugly with it. Feels like because the visuals are becoming more left-field, people are ascribing that more to the music but it's still an interesting choice from her.

Will be interesting to see what an album brings for her, it still almost feels like a sociological experiment launched exclusively for this forum with her shift from the first EP.

No, keep going, because I'm pretty sure I need to warm up to fight for my life in the Tate McRae thread this time next week.
Stay away from us, beast!

This is still lacking the melody highs of Diet Pepsi for me (Aquamarine suffers from that too but a bit more), the production is gorgeous tho. The chords and textures are crazy, little ear-candies all over (esp the choir high and whispered fashion in the end, very chopped, hmmm yes).

What really clicks for me is her visual direction and overall unsettledness across the board (music included). I get the Britney/00's pop etc comparisons but to me it's almost like if someone asked me to draw them from memory or having a fever dream about pop stars. Liminal I'd say, or Lynchian! I'm so seated

The whole discussion over whether the song is or isn't "left-field/weird" or not is interesting, because I think both are kind of true? Part of the appeal of this whole single package ~to me~ is the way the instrumental and visual do feel a bit more avant garde married to a song that is very pop in structure and performance. Art's in pop culture in Addison basically!

Yeah. I was talking with someone yesterday, and was just like... it sounds like a hit, but also not dd. I was surprised at it being chosen as a single when I first heard it. The chorus could easily catch on, but the verses are so off and wonky to me, mainly because of what sounds like a really dissonant beat under it all, and I think it really depends on what your ear lands on first.
