Alanis Morissette will release her 9th studio album (this includes the two pre-Jagged Little Pill) in 2018, according to recent interviews.

She played demos from the new album and performed one of them, "Rest", at a Chester Bennington tribute. It's a gorgeous ballad about mental illness. Her voice is a little raw in the clip below, but it actually works with such an explicit song.

Here's the audio:

I just want to love the album more than Havoc and Bright Lights. That's all I want.

I like the new song but I think she needs to work with the right producer and all signs point to her keeping it in the family for now....working with her band to create new songs. (Unless I'm mistaken?)

She needs someone to reign her in and control her artistic output. Let's hope she finds the right person for it.

Whatever the genre i hope she drops the “self help” aspect of her lyrics.

Her smoking cannabis might be the most relatable she's been in a decade tbh.

Also, while I agree it'd be great for her to expand her lyrical concepts, the fact that she's openly struggling with postpartum depression makes "Rest" resonate more than some of the generic songs from previous albums. I'm hopeful.

I'm looking forward to it regardless of what anyone else thinks. I actually really liked her last album.

I liked So Called Chaos too. But I HATE Jagged Little Pill. I cannot stand it. I guess that is weird to most people.

I really hope "Alanis Morissette smoking weed" becomes the year end Popjustice feud. The US Politics, Glory, and Big Pop Girl 2016 Rate Threads are all shaking. I'm kidding.
Edge of Evolution was my favorite song on Havoc so here's to more electronic stuff from her.

Alanis could sing all about her patchouli-scented, crystal-healing, chakra-cleansing, mid-life crisis motherhood blues... so long as Souleye is nowhere near the album! That's ALL I ask. I'll accept everything else. "Bring on the tequila!"

I imagine she could make an amazing album with someone like Rick Rubin as producer.
Something stripped and raw like the last few Johnny Cash albums...
I was thinking something very similar and then read this post! Rick Rubin would be perfect. She really needs someone to reign it in and to maintain quality control. If she's gonna do another album of recycled, dreary songs where she sounds like she recorded the vocals underwater with a cold again she can keep it.
