Moonraker was the third Shirley Bassey theme. I actually think it’s her best, though it’s the least remembered. It’s lovely – wistful and melancholic.

And utterly forgettable.

I'd agree it's the worst, although I don't think Chris Cornell's was much better.

I've totally lost interest in Bond as a whole entity anyway really. When they decided to make it more 'mainstream' by getting rid of John Cleese, gadgets, innuendo and Pierce Brosnan.

They said they wanted to make it more like what the writer had wanted, but I loved things just as they were without making them more 'true to the books' or whatever.

And I remember them giving the reason that Pierce looked 'too old' - so they replaced him with lumpy faced Grandpa Craig?

Moonraker is one of the best Bond themes. Sounds forgettable at first, but anyone who gives it more than a few listens and doesn't exclusively listen to handbag music should eventually grow to love it.

I do agree.. they took all the fun out of the series... why does everything have to contain some sort of post-9/11 angst (see Superman Returns for another example)

Rating time, alright, now we're getting somewhere. I know Bond like he knows his Walther ppk.. or something.

It's funny that many of the worst Bond movies have such incredible theme songs. And often ones which don't fit in any way with the feel of the movie, such as the somber Moonraker theme and the campy camp movie.

James Bond Theme – 9
From Russia With Love (the Matt Monroe vocal version) – 8
Goldfinger – 9
Thunderball – 7
You Only Live Twice – 10
OHMSS theme - 10, We Have All The Time In The World – 10
Diamonds Are Forever – 9
Live And Let Die – 10
The Man With The Golden Gun – 8
Nobody Does It Better – 10
Moonraker – 10
All Time High – 8,5
For Your Eyes Only - 9
A View To A Kill – 8
The Living Daylights – 8,5
Licence To Kill – 7
Goldeneye – 6
Tomorrow Never Dies – 9 (bonus: K.D Lang - Surrender - 9)
The World Is Not Enough – 7
Die Another Day – 5
You Know My Name – 4
Another Way To Die – 7,5

The Moonraker theme is really, really underrated. It's stunning and subtle and everything the movie's not (a movie I can enjoy because it takes the OTT to such unelievable heights).

As for Tomorrow Never Dies, I'd have a damn hard time deciding which song to choose for the titles. Both songs are among the best Bond songs, yet very different. I'd say they're equally good, but that Sheryl Crow's song is more modern, a fresher take on the Bond theme formula.

Hmm, I've quite surprised myself in preferring (overall) the 60s themes to the ones I knew and loved growing up (late 70s to mid 80s). I've probably been a bit generous with Another Way To Die, but it IS my favourite track at the moment by anyone.

EG.

no its amazing love it, love it, love it! every time the new bond film comes out the theme song gets slated but like all the rest it grows on you and you will realise why it was chosen in the first place!

Not forgetting the forgotten 007 single, If There Was A Man by The Pretenders (or Pretenders for 007), the other track from The Living Daylights.

Surely Lulu's gets the gong of worst Bond theme song. "He has a powerful weapon". Oo-er.
I thought that tune was a whole lotta fun at least. Lil' Miss Lulu raspin' out all them innuendos. Hey y'all at least 35 years later people still rememberin' it. I forgot this hot mess after the first time I heard it!
