Blended Family is very pretty. HERE for this, Alicia—come through.
Years back the urban blogs had a field day when it came out that Alicia 'stole' Swizz Beatz away from his then-wife, Mashonda. They had a baby together who was very young at the time and I think Ms Keys copped some heat for being a homewrecker. Mashonda was pretty vocal about how she felt Alicia had done her wrong but their relationships all improved over the years and clearly now there's no bad blood.
Mashonda released a very good R&B album in 2005, executive produced by Swizz Beatz. Get into this bop girls:

I saw this on iTunes this morning and was pissed when I didn't see it anywhere on the tracklist. I'm still bopping to it. Haven't heard the new song yet...Alicia is really hit or miss with me, although I might throw her some streams later in appreciation of her iconic stoned appearance at the VMA's a couple months ago.

The situation was never properly explained - Mashonda and Swizz Beatz officially separated in April 2008 and Swizz had a baby with another woman called Jahna (the baby was born in May 2008). Swizz and Alicia had been rumoured to be dating but didn't confirm they were together until 2009. At the time Mashonda was tweeting stuff like how she thought Alicia destroyed her family but when Alicia finally spoke about it she insisted Mashonda and Swizz were already separated before she came along.
So I was nervous about listening to Blended Family based on the Lifetime movie title, but it's quite good - actually fantastic. I hope this album is a decent success for her.

Well finally! A release date and a title! I like the cover. It is very natural and fabulous at the same time! Though the new song is boring and unmemorable. I wonder if Hallelujah and In Common will be in the album? They should be.
I don't know why I am so excited for this when she has never really impressed me before (aside from a few songs). I just have that gut feeling that this will be something very special. She seems completely invested in what she's created and the songs we've heard so far has been really good (shoutout to Hallelujah which I heard for the first time today, absolutely stunning).
