All Important Single Edits On CD

If you allow a few seconds either way, the 5.52 one I listed from SOS Band: The Greatest Hits is shown as 5.49 on the CD. So I reckon that's definitely the correct version.

Does anyone know if the correct single version of these two 1979 disco songs are on cd.
Players Association Turn the music up.
Sheila B Devotion Spacer.
I was going through CDs to find these two with the wrong versions.

So until this post, I’d never really considered that Spacer by Sheila & B. Devotion was anything other than the 3m:30s-length version I hear everywhere, despite it being one of my absolute favourite disco tracks.

Your comment means I just found the SIX minute-long album track on Spotify, so THANK YOU!

Of course, now I’m wondering what you’ve been listening to all this time which makes you believe the normally-heard track isn’t the single version?

The 45 version should be 3.39. It simply fades too early (up to 10 seconds) on many CDs.
But there is also a 3.50 version (which I don't have) - so not sure if that matches the 45 version and just goes on a bit longer, or if it's a different edit of some kind.

Does anyone know what release was the hit single version of Paul McCartney's Press.
There are two different version listed.
3:35 (Video Edit) and 4:20 version.

Oh god, this is something I've never got my head around!

Standard UK 7" was 4.20 (also known as the 10" version as that single had both this and the "Video Edit")

There's also an alternative UK 7" with the "Video Edit" 3.35

Then there is also a Hugh Padgham 7" mix that's 3.47.

None of these are on the Press To Play album, in any format. The LP mix runs to 4.41, but early pressings have a different mix to the later LP pressings and the CD.

Been trying to piece together a Press To Play SDE of my own, and I have played all the mixes several times and still struggle to differentiate between them!

Basically there are 2 versions.

The first version (45 and early pressings of the CD and LP) have the Hugh Padgham mix.
The 45 (3.57) is an early fade of the LP (4.23) version.

Then there's the video version. This became the norm on CD and LP versions (4.41).
The 45 (3.37 video edit) was just that, an edited version of this.

The video edit can be found on a German CD, International Pop Gold.

Thank you! Some sense at last.

It takes some working out though!!

I was sent a vinyl rip of the first 45 some years ago, it's definitely an early fade of the first LP version.
So either the label time of 4.20 is incorrect, or there were different pressings. That would be a real rarity in the UK though. The 10" might well have differed from other formats, I simply don't know about those.

You can only get the first 45 version in its full 4.20ish LP length on very early pressings of the Press To Play album. The 45 faded version has never been on CD, and the LP version is very hard to find!

I only found out about that German CD quite recently as well....

The scan of the 10" label says 4.20 but as we know they are not always correct/reliable!

I think I have 8 or 9 versions/mixes of the thing.
