All Important Single Edits On CD

Little chance of that I fear. Japanese releases tend to be quite limited, and sell out first. Out of print Japanese CDs tend to cost the earth. They've always been expensive (compared to UK/US releases).
Yes i agree about the Japanese CDs.I have The Dukes and Sunfire albums in my Discogs Wantlist and they never go down in price.

Just played the YouTube version to a cd version that was 4:20 and they seemed to match up so would say the 4:20 version is more likely to be the single version.
Yes, that guy's uploads always play fast. I make it about 4.12 in real time before it's cut off just as it's starting to fade out. Clearly longer than the 4.05 option though.

My 4.18 probably came from a European label, so it might be a little out - label times often are.

Yes I would go with the single edit is around 4:18.At least I don't have to buy another cd to get the Single version.

Does anyone know if the 'single remix' of Judie Tzuke's This Side of Heaven has been released on CD? Annoyingly, the 2001 reissue of its parent album 'The Cat Is Out' has the edits of a couple of the other singles, but not that.
Hadn't been paying attention to this thread until yesterday so excuse the very late and long, convoluted reply.

The 7" remix of 'This Side of Heaven' is just the album mix with a slightly shorter intro and an early fade. It's not available on CD as far as I'm aware. Unfortunately, the 2001 CD reissue is a bit of a mess and doesn't contain the full album mix either. The fade-in intro to the track is butchered (the chimes should start at nine seconds, not two, six on the 7") and it sounds like there's a bit of tape damage there too. The only way I know of to get the full original album mix, without the butchered intro, is on the 1980s Legacy CD release.

The single edits on the 2001 reissue are not what they are labelled either. The UK 7" of 'I'll Be The One' was identical to the album version. 'Love Like Fire', on the other hand, I'm not 100% sure about as I only bought the 12" at the time, which supposedly included the 7" on the b-side. Again, that sounds identical to the album version. I'd never heard either of these supposed single edits until this reissue.

'The Cat Is Out' was reissued in 2020 with the same track list as the 2001 release. Didn't buy it so can't say for certain, but I suspect it's probably the same master yet again.

I got this and did a comparison.

You (12" Edit) = You (Jazz Mix). A slightly jazzy (added sax) longer album mix.

Love Like Fire (Single Edit) = Love Like Fire (Club Mix) on the 12'' Single. Not hugely different. A Slightly remixed, marginally longer album remix.

I'll Be The One (Single Edit) - Album Edit supposed to be on the 7'' single but they used the full album mix. It sounds mastered differently to album mix. Better dynamic range.

So...in lieu of a CD release I decided to try and recreate the 7" mix of 'This Side Of Heaven' using the original CD as the source. Easy enough, it's just a simple fade in at the start and fade out before the end, as I said above...Wrong. After 36 years I've finally discovered it is a different mix after all. The verse that starts with "And the cold winter has cried all it's tears..." has an extra percussive beat in the right channel every fourth bar on the CD, that isn't present on the single mix. It's that minor I probably wouldn't have noticed had I not been wearing headphones.

Anyhoo, apologies for spreading misinformation earlier, I'm off to hide in a dark room in embarrassment for a while. As you were...feck!

I thought I'd have to go and buy some more Judie Tzuke CDs, as I only have the 2001 reissue of Cat and not the earlier disc.
I'd still cautiously recommend the earlier eighties Legacy Records CD. It's not as compressed as the 2001 remaster and you get Heaven with the full fade-in intro. However, before you contemplate splashing the cash, be aware that the 1989 Legacy reissue has it's own problem with a mastering error at the start of track 2. The first drum beat is repeated twice with the first one being LOUD. I've no idea if the original 1985 release has the same error, don't really fancy paying £20+ to find out either.

A couple of quieries regarding U.K. single lenghts for a couple of One Hit Wonders.
David Christie Saddle Up
Sugar Minott Good Thing Going.
A lot of CDs have different lenghts for these songs.
