All Important Single Edits On CD

A couple of quieries regarding U.K. single lenghts for a couple of One Hit Wonders.
David Christie Saddle Up
Sugar Minott Good Thing Going.
A lot of CDs have different lenghts for these songs.

David Christie is 3.14
Sugar Minott varies slightly, with some copies 3.41, others 3.44. Identical though, apart from the extra 3 seconds of music at the end on the longer copies.

Great Thanks again. Will have to find Saddle Up as I only have a 3:24 version which is wrong.

Sounds the same version I have on CD. Listed at 3.23 on the CD I have, but it is the correct UK edit.
I just did a fade at the end to match the end of the UK 45.

This is the cd I have it on.

Just compares a YouTube 3:14 version to the cd version and they are the same one.
Mine's a 5 CD box set, RTL 100 Disco Show. There seem to be a couple of CDs possibly closer to the 45 timing, but most around that length appear to vinyl LPs from the 80s. You can never be sure the shorter ones on CD will match the UK 45 anyway. All my other copies (well 2!) are the long 5.44 version.

Yes I agree that songs matching the length on cd does not mean they are the correct single version much to my cost over the years

After listening to Gambo playing mostly the wrong songs from the top 20 in January 1984, it made me wonder if Roland Rat Superstar ‘s Rat Rapping as ever made it onto CD, quick discogs search seems to say no?

I recently purchased the cd Playlist the Very best of Daryl Hall & John Oates.
On the cd there is a 45 version I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) that sounds like it was an edited version of the 12 inch version.I am just wondering is this the U.K. 45 version.

I've always assumed it is. Playlist is documented as the only CD (at least at the time of its release) with the US single version on, and the UK 45 is the same length - from memory, a few seconds longer than the LP version.

If anyone has a copy of either of these 2 new CDs released today, could you please confirm if either of these tracks are the original 45 versions. I don't believe either has yet been on CD?

Now Yearbook 84 Extra: Neil - Hole In My Shoe

Essential Nik Kershaw - Dancing Girls

Neil 45 is 3.46. Easy way to tell it's the single version - it should have the word "heavy" around 3.25, and then 20 seconds of instrumental. On the LP version, "heavy" comes around 3.19, followed by a section of Neil narrative about cornflakes in the plug hole!

Nik Kershaw's Dancing Girls 45 is 3.36 in length.

Glad I didn't waste my money, LP mixes are usually the norm. A bonus if they actually stumble across the correct edit/mix!
I don't suppose they search too far for budget priced releases, especially it seems where the major labels are concerned. A Cherry Red 3CD from Alvin Stardust (also released today) does have a 1975 Top 20 hit of his for the first time on CD in its longer 45 version, so it can happen!

There was a Neil ALBUM?!!!!

Yes! Neil's Heavy Concept Album. Haha. Released Nov 1984. Didn't do very well.

I got the reissue as soon as it came out though. Don't think it was on CD the first time.
