Bear in mind that commercial 45s of this were the original 1982 version. I believe the 88 remix was only on a promo 45 serviced to radio until Now included it.

The commercial 12" single did have a longer version of the remix.

If you define "hit version" as the version you got if you bought the 45 from your local record store, then yes.
The remix was all over radio and, I seem to recall, Top Of The Pops as well.
