All Important Single Edits On CD

So I've spent literal decades thinking that while I still loved Bailamos by Enrique Iglesias, it wasn't hitting quite exactly as I remembered from my very first memories of the song. I'd looked at all the album/single versions I could get my hands on and they were all pretty much identical, so I'd chalked it up to the Mandela effect. Only today I've found out (by going through old cassettes before throwing them away) that the version on the Wild Wild West soundtrack does have a slightly different arrangement and was probably what I'd been thinking of all these days.

Now I've been feeling the same way about Avril Lavigne's Complicated so if anyone knows of different arrangements, let me know!

Are you talking about this one? Didn't know there was a different version. Though the only difference I can hear is extra castanets in the chorus.

.

As for Avril, there were 2 different versions

Bailamos: that’s the one! Other than the castanets, the pop production is a little beefier (the album version is sparser in comparison). Not a super precise description but I’m not technical enough to describe otherwise.

Complicated: I probably had the Tom Lord remix in mind all this time. Thanks!

Apologies for my slight dementia. I am sure we did a section one time on Simple Minds single edits, though I can’t find it. my recollection is they are shared between 2001s Very Best of and the later Celebrate and 40 sets. But does anyone have a list of what is where please, to save me buying the latter two please?

saw them in Bournemouth last night, they were very good.

Hopefully my iTunes playlist has some answers for you!

OK, so this is my SM singles playlist from iTunes. I have a feeling there could be a couple of extra edits on the Once Upon A Time SDE boxset, which I recently acquired digitally.

Not if it's 3.28 as listed. The UK 45 was 3.16. I've yet to find the correct UK version on CD. The length can be found but it's not a match for the actual single.
Thanks again. There seems to be lots of One hit wonders from the late 70's and early 80's that have yet to appear on cd in there correct single edit form.

Can anyone please help clarify the correct UK 45 versions for these 2 1988 hits? I'm confused (not for the first time....). Also where they might be found on CD would be very welcome info!

Samantha Fox - Naughty Girls (Need Love Too)
Jermaine Stewart - Say It Again

It doesn't follow that the vinyl 45 and CD single will match unfortunately - sometimes they did, sometimes not in the late 80s. I have the 4.07 (approx) version on Now 11 and a Smash Hits CD from the same year.
But they didn't always use 45 versions either, so it's about as clear as mud!

What I certainly didn't know was that there was 2 second 45 of Jermaine Stewart with The Jingle Mix...

Samantha Fox has 4.20 on the label, but a note on the Discogs entry for the blue label version says this is "erroneous" - but with no further explanation. European 45s all seem to be 3.20 from the labels, but the US 45 is 4.20 and verified at that.

Yes I agree that its very confusing. The deluxe edition of Jermaine Stewart's album has the single version down for 3:49 but that might be a European or U. S. Version.

If it's on the deluxe, that's weird, because I would normally have imported it into my iTunes. I'll dig the CD out again tonight.

At the moment I use the 4.07 mix from NOW 11 (the original fatbox).

My specialist subject - 1988 UK 7” versions

Say It Again is 3:50 - available on the Cherry Pop album Say It Again (Deluxe Edition) from 2017. NOW 11 uses the album version.

Naughty Girls (Need Love Too) is 3:22 - I have it on her Greatest Hits from 1992 also on 100 Hits - 80s Anthems

Just following the Simple Minds post above, does anyone know why Don’t You (Forget About Me) (live) at 9 minutes was a US single in 1988 please? I assumed it was to promote 1987’s Live In The City of Light set but it doesn’t mention the album on the sleeve or replicate that eras artwork. Puzzled.

I had no idea about this at all. Why would they put such a long track out as a single, even for promo?
