All Important Single Edits On CD

Got out Hits 6 7 and 8 out to play and noticed that Desireless, Voyage Voyage in both 7 and 8 - in 3.55 version on Hits 7 and 4.18 on Hits 8. Weird on both and weird two differing versions! I guess Cbs thought it would hit in 87 and was remixed in 88?

Not sure if Strange kind of love is compilation edit as my cd single plays at 5.18 also.

I noticed that a couple of days ago while uploading to iTunes! I assumed the HITS 8 version is the PWL remix that became a hit. It wasn't in any way a hit the first time so not sure how it made HITS 7 aswell unless the remix was already on its way to being a hit and they saw an easy way to fill the disc with the old version knowing they could use the remix next time?

3:55 is the regular, French 7" mix from 1987 that the UK originally got. It doesn't have a mix name. 4:18 is the re-released UK single mix, by PWL, from 1988, which is just called 'Remix'. It's an edit from the 12" PWL did, which is the 'Britmix'. None of the mixes are particularly rare and all have appeared loads of times on various CDs. This just came out last year, all remastered and very welcome.

Just Be Good To Me comes in a 12" vocal mix at 8 minutes, a 5.39 version, a 4.26 edit, and 4.11 edit. So the Nite Flite 3 mix is not one I knew about, but that series do tend to contain rare single versions, so now I am curious!

The mix of Head Over Heels on Greatest Hits 82-92 is the single version, but just like the album version that segues into the next song as "...funny how...time flies" starts to fade, the 82-92 mix does the same, except into Mad World!

Thanks for the info. Roll on The Hurting Deluxe. Some more edits/7'' versions;

Housemaster Boyz - House Nation (3:32) (The 'Hit' remix not the original featured on HITS 7) (The Greatest Hits Of 1987 (Yes, that one again!), Telstar, 1987

Farley 'Jackmaster' Funk - Love Can't Turn Around (3:43) (Greatest Hits Of House, Stylus, 1988)

The Psychedelic Furs - Pretty In Pink (1986 Re-Recording) (4:10) (Put Your Foot Down And Drive, Columbia, 1998)

Then Jerico - The Motive (4:46) (Power Of Love 1986-1987, Time Life, 2002)

Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy (Nellee Hooper Remix) (4:33) (A-Side of 7'', Not on CD single) (Dance Energy 2, Virgin, 1991)

The Prodigy - Charly (Alley Cat Mix 7'' Edit) (3:38) (A-Side of 7'', Not on CD single) (The Ultimate Rave, Virgin/EMI, 1991)

The Blue Nile - Saturday Night (3:57) (Pride II - The Very Best Of Scotland, RCA/BMG, 1996)

Also, does anyone know if the short version of Frankie Knuckles 'Your Love' (3:58) on Rave Anthems (New State/Virgin/EMI, 2001) is the same as the 7'' released in 1989?

Yeah, the sound quality on the Dance Energy 2 version isn't great. I don't know why they opted for the album version on NOW 19 when it was Nellee Hooper's mix that was on the 7'' and on the radio most if I remember rightly. That box set looks great as well.

That Heartlands CD seems to be full of Single Edits. Eric did you bid for that Chris Rea CD single yesterday?

I did, and won it...thanks for the heads-up...it worked out about £1.50 cheaper than on amazon. I've wanted that mix for years, and I have the 7" vinyl so I know even the B-sides will be good as well. I saw Joys Of Christmas there too, but it was too expensive. I've also got that Heartlands CD for 1p off zoverstocks. My 1980s Singles Logs demand it.

Has anyone had luck in sourcing a CD version of Glenn & Chris Diamond Lights? Funnily enough It's Goodbye is available digitally but the chart single isn't, which is a pity as it is a cracking pop song

Ha! Someone else in the world who actually wants Glen & Chris tracks. I knew I'd find them one day. I have Diamond Lights from somewhere, not even sure where now. Will look into it.

So now I'll take a few days to think if I want to but it for 1 track as the others ones I've got from digital stores lol

Ooh, I only have this as a 320kps mp3. Looking at that tracklist, can anyone confirm which mix of Cath by The Bluebells that is?

Its length is 3:49, produced by Colin Fairley, P. 1983 Decca Record Co Ltd. There is also 'Cath - Remix' on the Young At Heart reissue CD single from 1993 which is 3:12 and credits are 'Produced by Colin Fairley, Remixed by Lenny Waronker' P. 1984 London. The sound quality of the Pride II compilation is very good. Hope that helps!

Glenn And Chris 'Diamond Lights' is also on 'The Best Footie Anthems In The World...Ever!' released by Virgin in 1996.

Yeah, I have the Young At Heart reissue CD single somewhere; at present, only the 1983 mix is in my iTunes, hence the question, but then I realised I actually own both 1983 and 1984 mixes! So the Pride comp has the '83 original; same length - 3.50 (ish) - as the Smash Hits 1983 version.

This thread is like a nightmare and a fantasy rolled into one!

This compilation from 1993 is your starter for ten, really.

It includes both;

Cath 3:51

and

Cath [Remix] 3:10

...plus the 12" versions;

Young At Heart [Extended Version] 5:28
I'm Falling [12" Version] 5:23

...which I couldn't find anywhere else at the time of buying. If you buy the aforementioned accompanying CD single of Young At Heart, also from 1993, you get these 7" edits additionally;

Young At Heart 3:37
I'm Falling 4:09

...which aren't on the compilation!

Ha! Plus it has the two 1981 and 1982 Cup Final songs....

There's a '' dance remix'' version of Diamond Lights on this compilation.....
