This, of course, was written by notable Oscar loser and professional Lady Gaga ass kisser Diane Warren about how she wants to leave a positively Oscarless impact on the world before she dies. She was also inspired by the attacks on 9/11 when writing this, and also describes it as the best song she's written in her career. She's not wrong. Back when God still did interviews (She doesn't even tweet), this is what She had to say about this: "I knew ['I Was Here'] was going to be a very special song. It just fit where I was in my life and expressed something I believed and wanted to share. As an artist, you want your music to mean something or to help someone get through something, and when a song has a great message and meaning, it is what you strive for."

Some of you must've foreseen that I wouldn't react well to anything other than glowing commentary, because the only ones of you that submitted for this song were the ones with good things to say. Makes my job easier and less heartbreaking, so thank you for at least making this death as quick and painless as possible. @Sprockrooster (10) stays right on track for that redemption edit. "This song gets me emotional every time. You can say Diane is overdramatic, narcissistic and self-absorbed in her tweeting, but this woman can write songs. Beyonce has the perfect vocal chords and belt-capacity to lift this song to extreme heights. Sooo close to my 11." Alas, your 11 wouldn't have been able to save it. Stay tuned to see how well Sprocky's actual 11 does. It looks like mine and @ohnostalgia's (10) reconciliation may be on the horizon as well, even if she does remind me of a horrible inevitability. I too engaged in Backseat Love but the song is not good. And neither is I Was Here. Start Over has always been one of my faves from 4! I think it's underrated, probably because it's a bit run of the mill I guess?

I Was Here is beyond corny for me. It's ironic how her last 2 albums have completely cemented her image as a socially active person but this song doesn't register at all for me.

'Backseat Love' is lush and should've been on the standard edition of the album along with 'Got Me Good'. 'I Was Here' is good but there are better songs on 4 and in this rate.

You've all decided that this #moment of romantic, love lorn whatever for imperfect angels should be the next thing to go, and you know what? I'm just mad you've come to the conclusion this deserves to tie with I Was Here (yes, I'm still pressed). It's the right time for this to go if you ask me, but it's still a perfectly serviceable--if a bit forgettable--track. As usual, her vocals are insanely good, but surely we've come to expect that from Mimi. It elevates what would otherwise be a 5/10 for me. A bit puzzling that she'd choose to release this is a single, but given her chart impact these days, whooooo cares? Fun fact: this is the song that gave Mimi her 17th #1 on the Hot Dance Club Songs chart, tying her with Donna Summer for fifth most chart toppers! (Thanks wikipedia!)

Surprisingly, much of the commentary comes to essentially the same conclusion that I did. @Sprockrooster (7) is trying hard to win me over, agreeing at every turn lately. "I am still a bit bored by this" Well, it is boring, so... My estranged fave @Kuhleezi (8) shares my views as well, " Not a big fan, but I can't just ignore those vocals." As does the good sis @ohnostalgia (7.5) who decided to be generous, "I gave an extra 1/2 point for the amazing whistle note at the end." Yeah, you betta recognize! The shadiest piece of commentary surprisingly comes from @CorgiCorgiCorgi (6) "A bit too sugary-sweet, but then again, this is Mariah Carey, that works for her." Is that a read?
