All Saints - Red Flag

The album has plummeted in the midweek. It's currently at #20. That's bad news :( Obviously it sold well enough to go Top 3 in the first week but it looks like unless you're a massive All Saints fans (who went out and bought the album straight away), there isn't much interest for them this time either. I just hope they make enough to continue to release music in the future. I mean, if Melanie C, V V Brown and the likes get to continue to release music despite a strong lack of chart success, I hope All Saints do too, and touring and everything else... (I know they are random artists as a comparison but it's the only two I can think of right now but you know what I mean, hehe).

I was having lunch today and Pure Shores came on the radio. It was strange eating a sandwich with all the sand and the birds and the waves and the palms on a beach in the night, but really soothing.

#20 is still a higher peak than Studio 1 and Melanie C's last decade worth of albums. #Silverlining

I have only one niggle about this album, on 'Make U Love Me' Shaznay ad-libs over the second chorus and it kills the melody a bit.

I got the impression this time round they weren't really expecting chart smashing success but have proven they can do well purely of their core fan base!

It's a shame it's dropped but not really unexpected? #20 is still pretty good. If the album had charted at #20 last week I'd have been really pleased for them, so...

Have they any promo lined up or do you think they'll just focus on pushing the tour now?

This Is a War needs a music video pronto.

I didn't think it would make number 20 in its first week so I'm not that disappointed. Obviously a second week in the top ten would have been amazing

The main thing is they got a top 3 album. We can only hope further singles give it legs.

What an album. I have rarely had higher expectations to an album, and never have they been met like this. It's very hard to fault any of the tracks, even the worst ones (Summer Rain, Ratchet Behaviour) are very very good. Red Flag, the song, is sensational and Pieces is everything I wanted. Shaznay has written some beautiful lyrics this time around (shame she felt like shouting some of them). She is a very talented lady. All in all a five star album that will follow me throughout summer.

Nothing will ever quite match Pure Shores though.

Do we think it's Shaznay or Natalie leading the "one woman MAAA-AHHN" part of the chorus of said song? I genuinely can't tell.
It's Natalie, isn't it? I'm sure I remember her singing those bits on the One Show performance.

But there are quite a few times on the album where I've not known who was singing.

Speaking of which, who sings the first verse of Ratchet Behaviour? And the first verse of Summer Rain?

Still listening to the album and it's definitely a 9/10 for me. I don't think there's any such thing as a perfect album so that's a pretty awesome result. Favourite tracks are One Woman Man, This is a War, Make Me Love You and Red Flag.

I only have three minor niggles: the rapper on Ratchet could easily have been dispensed with (as others have said, a little bit of Bart Simpson from Shaz is sorely missing on this album and would have worked perfectly here). Also Who Hurt Who is just that bit too schmaltzy and slow for me, and I would have loved Fear to really take off towards the end. I keep waiting for a crescendo that never comes, but it's a great song nonetheless.

Other than that, sterling job ladies.

Yes I saw that too but I figured that was because Shanzay would be too busy shredding her vocals throughout the rest of the song.

I think it might be Shaznay with Nicole's vocals layered on top, but both are pretty distorted beyond recognition. It makes for such an addictive sound.

It's Natalie. You can see that (and hear, too) on the G-A-Y performance. She does all the hmm I don't even know how to call them, second parts of the chorus. See below:

Yeah you got me in the palm of your hands
You decide with your heart not your head
I know you can make her understand
a one woman man

You're welcome :)
