Amerie

Re: Amerie -In LOVE and WAR

Urgh its just an injustice. Ameries album is far superior to the songs that Rihanna has released so far from Rated R... but then again I may have never heard the whole album, there may be some corkers.

I just wish people would connect with her the way I do! I love that she hasn't changed her sound to something which isn't her and that you can tall that all three (I know there is a debut but I've never heard it) albums are very Amerie and she doesn't sound like anyone.

Also I don't understand why record labels sign artists, produce albums for them and then don't help the artist promote them?!

...RANT OVER.

KEEP AMERIE INDIE

Uh, she never WAS indie. Amerie was always signed to a major label as far as I remember. I do think she should move to an indie label after this though, because she will never get any attention over at Def Jam.

You've never been in the Annie thread, huh?

Ohhh, now I remember! Ha, yes I was just in the Annie thread. Now I get what she/he meant by that.

Re: Amerie -In LOVE and WAR

Def Jam is a complete mess of a label. They fuck up Janet's best album in years, and now they are going out of their way to fuck up Mariah's best album in years (despite already fucking up her album last year!). Seriously, if you can fuck up iconic pedigree acts who are delivering the material... then, it is SO easy to fuck up an act like Amerie who isn't as cemented in the publics' minds.

They have the pull to get her on huge tv shows, so why don't they? She can actually sing, actually dance.. why isn't she on every show proving it??

Because the world is going to hell, that's why!

Just kidding. Amerie's lack of proper pushing has always been mystifying. She can sing, she can dance, she can write/produce, she consistently releases strong material, but none of that is good enough for her labels---they won't do anything to push her. And it's not as if her music is SO far out there that the average listener won't take to it, so what gives? They don't try at all. Not even her own fans know she has singles/an album out.

Re: Amerie -In LOVE and WAR

On first listen it is so... underwhelming. But, so was Because I Love It first time... I will just keep playing Swag Back (so good!), Heard Em All & Why R U until every thing else grows on me.

I think she could have taken a lot more risks... Flowers annoys me so much at this point. The lyrics are so awful. But, maybe it will suddenly become my favourite song if I can bear to listen to it again.

I would appreciate maybe more trumpet-songs like Gotta Work.. but I suppose we have Because I Love It for that.

Also, why the hell is every video of Heard Em All on youtube not able to be embedded, do they not WANT anyone to see this?!

I'm sorry but the cover of the album sure ain't helping sales.

I'm sure that's not the point. It's very symbolic of her situation. Personally I equate it to Amerie's history as a phoenix. Just when everyone thinks she's done for, she rises from her own flames again.

Re: Amerie -In LOVE and WAR

What a shame In Love and War is getting such hate mail. Granted, it doesn't touch the off-kilter wiles of Because I Love It, but it still has its fair share of corkers. "Higher" rides a fine line between Ike and Tina and Betty Davis whilst most of its latter half continues down the SWV road she began on Because I Love It. The only low-point for me is the song most people here love: Heard 'Em All. Her disappointing sales seem to be positioned at Amerie apparently not being modern enough, but Amerie never really was much of a conformist. Heard 'Em All seems to disprove that idea, which is unfortunate. It's not a bad track per se but is ultimately disappointing with its blatant mirroring of Beyonce a'la Sasha Fierce. However, if Amerie was so desperate to be in the Beyonce brigade, why aren't there more carbon copies littered throughout the album? Speaking of Beyonce though: Swag Back completely glorifies the balladic synthfest that Beyonce evoked in Halo.

I'm not sure if anyone wants to hear this, but - second week:

Re: Amerie -In LOVE and WAR

Was anyone expecting this to do well? The only promotion I've seen for the album has been when I bothered to actually go look the album up myself. Nobody I've talked to knows who Amerie even is, which in itself is really a pity. Her previous albums weren't that high-profile, were they?

Re: Amerie -In LOVE and WAR

I just saw Heard 'Em All on Swedish music telly and it made me wonder what the future holds for her? Will Def Jam keep her after the miserable failure of In Love and War?

She has re-entered the chart at #198! That Amerie can't be stopped!
