Anne-Marie wins MTV Brand New 2016

Anne-Marie has been crowned as the winner of MTV Brand New 2016.

The singer, who cut her teeth as Rudimental’s live show vocalist for two years, gained the highest number of votes in the history of the competition, which is presented by Emporio Armani Diamonds.

This announcement comes after two nights of live showcases at the Electric Ballroom in Camden, London, last week. Anne-Marie (pictured) was part of the support bill for Craig David, while Bloc Party headlined the other night. MTV Music will screen the performances later this month.

"I've had all of my friends and family voting so sending a huge thank you to everyone who did,” said Ann-Marie. “It was a dream come true to perform ahead of Craig David last week, he's absolutely amazing and what a show with all of the classics. Thank you so much MTV, this is incredible.”

Anne-Marie beat Rat Boy into second place, with the Top 5 completed by Sigala, Bonkaz and WSTRN. In previous years, the MTV Brand New shortlist has included acts such as Adele, Tinie Tempah, Jessie J, James Bay, Years and Years, The Vamps, Krept & Konan, George Ezra, Sam Smith and Ella Eyre.

The competition acts as a platform for budding artists, with the 10-act shortlist handpicked by critics and industry specialists before the public votes for the winner.

I really like this girl. I saw her live last year with Rudimental but didn't realize who she was until months later when I heard 'Karate'. She's one of my favourite new artists.

Alarm is at #25 on iTunes with a discount.

She's quite an interesting little case of major label backed Radio 1 fodder isn't she?

There's a lot to like about her, but I feel like she's quite likely to get lost in the pop landscape at the moment.

She's been pushed in the same ways that Dua Lipa has, and while neither have managed a huge hit yet, Dua has at the least cultivated the beginnings of a fanbase. Dua also has better songs in my opinion.

It's quite telling that her thread here is only one page despite being a young female popstar on the rise. Even her best songs feel slightly anonymous.

Her voice is really good, she has some cool tunes, but what made someone at a label go "Yes, this girl is a superstar. Throw tons of money at making her happen" remains to be seen.

Yeah she is a pretty great and fresh popstar but something just isn't connecting with the masses like Becky Hill (SIGH). Also the singles they're trying out for her big push are simply not big enough to even have a chance of launching her. It's not King or Hotter Than Hell.

All her singles have been really good, her feature on Rumour Mill is brilliant too, she just needs a big stomper of a hit though. She seems like a lot of fun and with Alarm doing what it is, she has more chance of an album than a lot of females out there...

Alarm is GREAT.

For me Anne Marie's material was not up to scratch with her vocals until now. (loved Rumor Mill)

Seems this is becoming a legit hit in the UK.

It's massive-sounding and I must applaud it.
