It’s funny how these new HomePods are getting so much hype when they are so similar to the old ones and the same price.

I have some of the old ones and also some HomePod Minis. The big ones are definitely better but they weren’t popular. Will the new ones be popular?

The sway for me was enjoying both of my minis. I feel like these 2nd-gen HomePods, they've taken elements of both to include, especially after how the mini has been super successful and the original was maybe overpowered (and overpriced) which led to the overheating and later bricking. I think the first generation was definitely a hopeful product with them putting in so many components available to give it a on-paper technological advantage:

I think the HomePod, Apple TV & Studio Display are basically products that came to be simply because Apple had some spare chips & parts laying around from older generation products, and figured out a way to repurpose them.

And after finding a way to "dumb down" the original (with the mini), they still wanted to keep selling an upscale version that could last. The original has a terrible failure rate, both from software and hardware. Personal bias, it seems that they've reintroduced it with better internals offering longevity after realizing their original design was kinda shit. Not every OG HomePod has failed, but the mini succeeding for sure taught them a lesson.

In either case, I sold off them minis and my stereo pair arrives tomorrow. Upgrade, hunny!

I have a 1st gen HomePod that still hasn’t borked, but it feels nice that I’ll be able to get a new (albeit slightly inferior one) if/when it does.

You’re gonna love the bass on the big one. I can’t even imagine the sound of a stereo pair.

I did have a question tho.

Right now, I have an AirPort Express, which has AirPlay 2. I have a subwoofer connected via a 3.5mm cable to the AirPort, which was paired with my minis (it was my workaround to have better bass). Should I keep the subwoofer with my HomePod 2 pair? I can only imagine that it'll enhance the bass, but will it be necessary?

Give it a try, but I feel like the bass will overpower everything else if you keep the woofer. The large HomePods have pretty impressive bass for the size.
Ok fair! The pair was expensive and I was thinking of giving the sub to the person buying. Thank you!

Tell us about the bass.
Dd, I'm hooking them up tomorrow!

I have to reset the minis to factory settings, remove them, add the new ones, then ensure that my 4K Blu-ray player connected via HDMI successfully uses ARC on my TV (via my Apple TV 4K) to send audio to them. I was just too tired for all that shit today. I'm just glad they arrived on time!

I lied dd. I took care of the minis and the bass response on the new ones is IMMENSE. I have to keep it like close to the lower level to not disturb anyone. I'll add the subwoofer via the AirPort Express over the weekend to see what that adds.

The HomePods are absolutely an upgrade to the minis. Jesus. I’ve only been able to play them at 33-40% because they’re so thundering. I don’t want any neighbor complaints but they’re so rich.

Apologies if this one has been asked before but is Dolby Atmos worth it with the gen 1 airpods? I feel like the newer models are more optimised for it but I’m not sure. Although tonight they don’t seem to be holding charge so I think mine are on the way out because of course they are dd

I just listened to

on the Gen 2's. Just get your life sis.

No idea how I managed to miss it but Apple Music and Apple TV apps for Windows have been released in preview. They're working fine for me! Music supports lossless and TV supports 4k, hey let's celebrate that.gif

The subwoofer is basic () but adds such a depth to the HomePods. I'm happy with them when it's late night, but during the day/weekends, the sub expands their sonic footprint. So, so good.

Are they only on Windows 11? My old PC doesn’t support that and I use it so rarely that it doesn’t make sense to upgrade.
