Ariana Grande - eternal sunshine deluxe (Mar 28)

I want the instrumental, acapella, and extended for "we can't be friends" now. It's completely spellbinding and an instant challenger for the title of her best song. The scope? The way it feels like it holds multiple timelines and realities of every love irrevocably lost, suspended without closure? How some things reach such a point of intimacy that de-escalation is impossible, and nothing will ever be the same without it? Waiting forever in the dying light with the last flickering embers of hope? Did I need this on a hungover Friday? No I didn't? Max Martin you are a demon and you will not see heaven? Is this a lot of emotion for a song that on the surface is just about Page Six calling her a harlot? Yes??? AND??????
Pulitzer Prize to Ariana and Max for having the beat be a bit muddled in the mix, making the song sound literally like a teary conversation across the street from the club you just left, when all the truth comes out. I swear you can even hear a car or two passing by.

A very nice album. Listened to it on computer speakers but going to headphone it tonight. Songwriting is stronger. Truly feels like a more focused/less boring Positions. There's just a lot more going on, sonically and depth-wise.

There's some Sweetner vibes sprinkled in there but not as much I was expecting.

For me, this feels like the spiritual successor to thank u, next.

As a whole, I find the album quite hard to critique because it feels so raw and healing. The album is strong, concise, and plays to her strengths in a way that feels… the most mature we’ve heard from her? There’s nuance, understanding, grief, heartbreak and nothing feels like a trauma response but rather… her taking accountability to her own feelings, actions and truth. It’s quite a beautiful listen.

Really really enjoying this on first listen, it's definitely one that works better as a full listen through to these ears. The production is lush and she sounds amazing, I love how restrained some of the vocals are. The songwriting is great too. My current faves are supernatural, we can't be friends, and imperfect for you.

I swear I can hear her getting choked up during the second chorus, am I the only one? ddd

You can definitely hear her voice crack and waver during the second chorus. A completely raw moment which I'm glad they decided to keep in because it just adds to the overall massive gut punch she gives you in that run from we can't be friends/i wish i hated you/imperfect for you.
