Ashlee Simpson

These lyrics (the first verse ones) have been in the Fernando Garibay remix so it’s great to finally hear them in the proper song.

Hopefully this means there’s a reissue of Autobiography coming out with this as a bonus?

After Kara told us what the original line was I never sung "beat you up" as that was such a fucking clumsy line and "get you off" is clearly the right lyric and fina-fuckin-ly I get to hear my fave verse in the album version and not the remix after all these years!

I’m not holding my breath, even though there’s a handful of outtakes that were played on The Ashlee Simpson Show that would be cute to finally release. This leaked a while back. Not sure if we ever found out the source.

It sounds so good however I can't help but ironically always do the clean version with 'like it better when we flirt' and the lemonade bit. I would love a big Autobiography reissue next year for the twenty years - I know we have the vinyl already but a deep dive with things like this from the vaults would be amazing.

Am I the only one who thinks the lyrics we ended up with work better dd (maybe it's just because they're what I'm used to)

I think the original "dirty" version works better, but it's also hard to get used to because we've had the other one for nearly 20 years. The more I listen to it, though, the official one does feel weirdly censored.

Always thought “Outta My Head” was proto-The Fame Gaga and no one can convince me otherwise.

Wait, “Boys” too.
When I first saw Gaga performing Just Dance at Miss Universe I actually thought for a second that it was Ashlee pushing the Outta My Head/synthpop/artsy cooky girl persona a little further.

Outta My Head is so fun, and it was a really bold lead single, but I think if I were running the show, from the get-go it would have been Little Miss Obsessive. She'd been away from music for a minute and she needed to come back with something that felt familiar to her.

Little Miss Obsessive
Boys
No Time for Tears
Outta My Head
What I've Become

would have been a great singles run. But all her albums deserved more. All 3 are great.

‘Outta My Head’ was the right choice, as it was bold and on trend with the Timbaland sound.

What it would have benefitted from, is if she had a featured rapper, either Timbaland himself, Missy Elliot or somebody similar.

Ashlee and her team should have then followed it up with ‘Boys’ with a female rapper or one of the Pharrell/Neptunes tracks to continue building on the trend she had jumped aboard.
