AURORA - What Happened to the Heart?

My one major nitpick is that she a) released the singles she did, and b) that they're all in one chunk within the tracklist. I don't think they represent the range of the album's sound, and it's tempting to skip them when almost all the new material comes after them. I just wish they were spread out a bit.

The album basically flows like this for me: Intro track -> singles -> usual folky, witchy tracks -> THE BEST PART (Dreams onward).

Upon first listen I thought the album was a bit dreary, but upon second listen I really appreciate the intricacies in the production and the lyrical content. The second half hits SO hard it's fantastic, my favourite kind of AURORA music. I now think this is probably her second best piece of work, next to Infections.

I've been listening to this on repeat since yesterday. Aurora is, for me, very much an album gal, and this works so well as a whole collection of songs. I had a hard time getting into the previous album. I don't know if it was the songwriting, or if the production just didn't work, but I've only kept a few tracks from The Gods We Can Touch.

I would say that The Essence is maybe the only filler on the record that I could do without. I also don't like Conflict of the Mind where it sits in the tracklist. The song is killer, and a much needed down-tempo song in an album full of songs with heavy and intricate production. I don't know where it would go though, cause the run from Earthly Delights to Invisible Wounds is spotless and I wouldn't change a thing about it. I can't believe that this album is over an hour long, cause it damn sure does not feel like it.

I worry that I might overplay this cause it's so damn good.

My only problem with the previous album is the final tracklist. The old tracklist from the first versions of the vinyls works much better and makes the album more cohesive and balanced and I have no idea why the change happened, so I reorganized it on my itunes ddd
